Today we’d like to introduce you to Journey Filkosky.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As far back as I can remember, I had a passion for fashion. I would watch fashion TV on VH1 back in the day and would look forward to flipping through my mom’s Vogue and Cosmopolitan magazines when they’d come in the mail. I decided to give blogging a try when I realized there were mostly high-end bloggers or budget bloggers and not many in between. As someone who proudly mixes my high end with my low-end designers, I wanted to read blogs that catered to people of all budgets and showed high end and low end worn together- so I created one. It has since blossomed into me sharing my high/low mixes when it comes to everything in my life including my jewelry, home decor, and beauty products.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle of all was trying to build my website. I knew NOTHING about the logistics of creating a blog. HTML codes were like a foreign language to me. Sometimes, I would spend hours on YouTube trying to figure out how to something, to the point of tears. I never gave up. Another struggle for me was seeing other bloggers who had “made it” and I’d compare myself to them. Sometimes, I still have to remind myself that I can’t compare my first chapter with someone else’s 10th chapter. It is key that we shift our thinking from how far we want to go, to how far we’ve come. I want to remind anyone just starting out, that with hard work and patience, you can find success. Some bloggers take off fast, most don’t! I’ve been blogging for over five years and my blog wasn’t even monetized until three years ago. Imagine if I quit before that? That’s two years of hard work with NO PAY, but I stuck with it because I loved it. Don’t get discouraged. When you find something you love to do, the money will come.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Yourstylejourney story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in styling high low mixes with my outfits as well as makeup and home decor and my jewelry. Everyone can take inspiration in what I do because I do it for everyone, no matter what their budget. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful and treat themselves to beautiful things.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think right now is a great time for women to inspire one another. The time of competitiveness is over, we can and must build each other up and fully support each other. There is enough cake for all of us!!
