Conversations with the Inspiring Jessica Baltusis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Baltusis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story is something I continue to write each day. I was born and raised in a suburb of Detroit and lived there until I went to college. I grew up in a tight-knit family that I couldn’t feel luckier to have. I attended Michigan State University where I got my degree in Advertising from the school of communications. Throughout my time in college, I interned and worked at various companies that helped me better understand what I wanted to do with my life. What they always lead me back to was working in advertising, marketing, and fashion. I moved to Chicago after I graduated and started working at Yelp in advertising and sales. Little did I know, while I was not only progressing my career, I was progressing a relationship that turned into the love of my life. His name is Alex. He makes me a better person and I love him more each day. After over two and a half years in Chicago, we decided to take a risk and move to California, somewhere we both always wanted to live. Now, we live in West Hollywood, with our adorable cat, Bella. I work as a Business Development Manager as well as run my fashion and lifestyle blog. I enjoy traveling, cooking, learning about health and nutrition, and spending time with friends and family. I am not sure where life will take me next but am excited for the journey ahead and where it leads me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I am sure most people in the world can say, life did not come without challenges and struggles. I wholeheartedly believe that the tough times in your life are what shape you into the person you become. Growing up is a time of self-discovery and there are going to be unplanned things that happen. If I could give my younger self some advice, there would be a few things I would say. First, you are enough. In everything that you do. I mean that in the way you look, the things you like, the way you think, any part of you that you ever question. I found myself constantly comparing myself to others in every way possible and always wondering – am I good enough? I was then and I am now. Second, your health and well being is everything. When I was in college, I had a health scare where I found myself hospitalized while in and out of more doctors offices than I could count. During that time, I struggled with anxiety, depression, and it affected not only myself but my relationships and overall quality of life. After experiencing a point in my life where I knew what the lowest of lows were like, I made sure I would do everything in my power to not get to that point again. Focusing on not only my physical health, but mental health is so important. You have one body, mind, and soul in your life. Your daily habits are what defines you and your success. No matter what you plan to do with your life, know that being successful comes from confidence and internal well-being.

what should we know about Business Development Manager & Fashion Blogger? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
After moving to California, I began working as a Business Development Manager for a company called ProcurementIQ. I work with multi-million and billion dollar companies to help transform their procurement departments through the different tools we sell. It is difficult work, but it helps instill in me self-discipline, grit, and the ability to stay humble. During my free time, I started a fashion and lifestyle blog that I hope to turn into a career someday. Even though my blog is not what pays the bills yet, I am most proud of it because it is something I created that is truly my authentic self. I believe what sets me a part from the competition is my tenacity and ingenuity. There are a lot of people out there doing the same thing as you- its imperative to work your hardest and push the boundaries.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important piece of advice I would give to a young woman who is just starting her career is to take every opportunity that comes your way. Then, work harder than anyone else around you. The opportunities you take and work ethic you establish will set the foundation for success. Having a good foundation will lead to more personal and professional growth.
