Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Abion.
Cristina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2013, shortly before my youngest son, Uriah was born, I had started a passion project – hellolovelyliving.com. It was during this season in my life that I had gone through a “heart-to-heart” with myself, so to speak. I realized that I didn’t want a 9-5 running my life anymore. I wanted to do what I love and discover more about myself in the process.
With that decision, Hello Lovely Living has grown into what it is today – a melting pot of everything I love to do – design, photography, styling, content creation, and blogging about my message of self-care, wellness, growth, and empowerment.
Just last October, I took a risk to pursue my dreams even further. With nothing but the essentials in my car and my toddler in tow, I drove from Oklahoma to Los Angeles to reunite with my eldest son, Kodi, and start a new life. Now, I’m here today growing my business, and it’s only just the beginning!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road whatsoever, but I have learned so many things about myself in the process. I believe that if I didn’t step out and take risks when I didn’t have all of the answers, I wouldn’t have discovered many answers in the process. It really is a journey filled with ups and downs, but I can happily say that it has been worth every bit of uncertainty.
I always encourage women to step out of their comfort zones and do the very thing that scares them; that is my philosophy. Once you start to do this with anything that comes your way, it really builds you up mentally, so that the next time a challenge comes up, you’re like, “Bring it on!”. I’ve learned how to be fearless by thinking less and doing more.
what should we know about Hello Lovely Living? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in bringing a brand’s visual identity to life, which includes three main areas of development: design (graphic, web, lettering), photography (product and styling), and social media (content creation and management).
I am known for my minimal and modern aesthetic and love for styling settings and scenes that portray a very calm and relaxing vibe. My storytelling is largely influenced by where I’m from, Guam, and my love for exploring, so you can expect to see a lot of palm trees, beaches, and nature within my branding.
I am most proud of the services I am able to offer my clients because I am a one woman army basically able to do just about any and everything for them. Since my background is so diverse, I believe I have so much to offer – from my business and marketing knowledge and background to design, photography, styling, and content creation and influence – I do it all!
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Absolutely! Growing up, I was always moving around and had to adapt very quickly to new environments and be content in change. I believe that goes hand in hand with life in general, but how that has helped me attain things in life is that I understand that change needs to take place in order for growth to happen.
I have also learned another valuable lesson in that as well, and that is the art of letting go. In order for you to achieve anything in life, you must learn that progression in life comes at a cost. You must constantly be open to new things, which means also letting go of things that hold you back.
I have always been very independent and self-starting, so that has also carried through in my life. I understand that the only way that anything is going to occur is if you, yourself, make it happen.
Having said that and experiencing change and loss throughout my life, I have determined that success is not a place or a thing, but a state of mind. If you’re doing what you love and you are excited about your goals and aspirations enough to take risks to see it come to life – that is a success. Learning about yourself and who you truly are deep down inside is a success because we all know how hard that is in and of itself.
