Conversations with the Inspiring Cindy Stirling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Stirling.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in s small mountain ski town in Arizona. With a passion for the beauty industry, I attended cosmetology school during my junior and senior year of high school. Moving to Scottsdale Arizona shortly after graduating, I started my own Salon studio at 20 years old while working part-time at MAC cosmetics. I worked 7 days a week until I moved to San Diego in 2008. After 8 years with MAC in 2012, I decided it was time to start my own mobile makeup and hair business. Six years later, here I am. I couldn’t be happier! I feel so blessed every day to be doing what I love and making my clients feel and look at their very best. My passion is production hair/makeup/grooming, photoshoots and weddings. The long crazy hours make me thrive and I enjoy the adrenaline rush. Plus, I get to travel the world for work and play while being able to give back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest word for advice is TRUST. You must trust your passion, your gifts and your guidance. When I started out, I had no mentors. The first 2 years, I survived on “ego” (not in an egotistical way) but I felt like I couldn’t ask for anyone for help or advice. I felt like if I did no one would take me seriously. I learned my own lessons every step of the way. I will always remember the moment I quit MAC, I literally sat at my computer and taught myself how to build a website with absolutely no tech experience. My survival food was scrambled eggs and popcorn that I’d cook on the stove. Thank goodness, I was dating someone at the time who loved making dinner because I couldn’t afford to eat much else. Through the struggle, I learned value, dedication and truly how it feels to be grateful.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Cindy Stirling Makeup & Hair story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in TV/film production, photoshoots, national and international Weddings. My makeup craft varies from beauty looks, airbrush, theatrical and prosthetics. Hairstyling down natural everyday looks, extensions, wedding updo’s to crazy theatrical costume styles.

To name a few… I’ve worked with CBS Sports network, 20th Century Fox, Published in Junebug weddings, women’s health and fitness and more.

What sets me apart from others is the heart and my dedication. I will always show up 100%. I love volunteering and giving back. Most recently with the Unatti foundation in Nepal.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Since I was a little girl, I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Every one of my dolls had caked on play makeup and overly styled hair. My grandma was a hairstylist and she saw my passion as a little girl, I think she knew I was following in her footsteps. She lived 3 hours away in Sedona and would surprise me in cosmetology school every month just to come get her hair cut by me. It was the sweetest thing and meant so much to me to have her there and at both my graduations. She passed one week after graduating and I can’t help but believe seeing me fulfill my dream career fulfilled hers. I like to think her spirit is with me every step in my career.
