Conversations with the Inspiring Carolina Edson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Edson.

Carolina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I set my mind to something, I give it my all. So, when I decided I wanted to start branding myself as someone who could make a difference, I went full force. I started and launched my blog in one month. Not because I rushed through it, on the contrary, I used every few moments I had to build it, but because I was determined to get it out there. I wanted my story to be told sooner than later, so I had no time to waste.
I share my story of being an LGBT woman of color starting the foster process with my wife, but I also share that we are just as normal as anyone else. We enjoy going on dates, Disney trips, and working out together, nothing crazy.

I hope my story resonates with others and helps spread love and compassion.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a struggle in finding out my identity and also starting my own business. I think they go hand in because if you don’t know who you are then how can you authentically speak to something?

Once I started being the best version of myself, ALL of myself, I was able to let my creative side shine through.

All I can say is, be unapologetically you. I know it’s cliche, but we seriously only have one life to live so why waste it trying to be someone else. People want real and authentic. Keep pushing for your dreams, if they make you happy, keep at them!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I focus on providing information to other LGBTQ+ couples out there who are also going through or will start the foster to adopt process. I also just want to share our lives as a normal millennial couple. We love to cook together, go on Disney trips, and just hang out. I created my lifestyle blog with an emphasis on becoming resource parents but it’s really just to share life hacks for everyday things. I share our favorite places to travel (usually Disney world), my favorite workouts and how I like to stay active and healthy, I’ll share recipe ideas and kid-friendly toys. I will also touch on big LGBTQ+ topics that are near and dear to my heart.

I want to allow other couples to feel like they can come to my blog as a safe space to talk. I want the vision to be that we all gather around our laptops with our coffee and have a virtual coffee date.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Reach out on different social platforms has been extra beneficial. I know Instagram is the main one, but Facebook groups or Pinterest are also great ways to find like-minded people who can provide advice or guidance.
