Conversations with the Inspiring Angelic Lockett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelic Lockett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angelic. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started candle making as a therapeutic hobby. I used candle making as a coping mechanism, helping me to heal from my fathers tragic passing. I tried many different coping mechanisms but candle making and finding my stride within spirituality are the only things that truly helped.

I was also spending a lot of money buying candles for my home, sometimes burning 5-8 candles at a time. The ingredients in the candles started to agitate my respiratory system. I figured I’d learn to make my own healthier candles. After making my own, I got so many requests for candles from friends. I figured it would be smart to begin selling them. Not only would it be a creative outlet, making something that I love, but also helped to bring some light to my life at a time where I was at my lowest. It brought me purpose and fulfillment.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I have no experience in business. No former knowledge of candle making. Took me thousands of my own dollars to learn and slowly build to this point. I didn’t always have the money to buy inventory or make certain improvements. It has just been a LONG, slow journey of making mistakes, learning from them.

I also use to doubt myself a lot, especially in the beginning. I’d come out with a new product that I would work so hard on and no sales would come through. I had to work for many years before I started making consistent sales. It is mentally & emotionally tough to continue to try to create and keep pushing forward in business when nothing is working out. But I had a vision. I would take breaks, but I would always continue to keep working.

For young women who are starting their journey into entrepreneurship, I would suggest a few things. One is finding a group of other women in business to form a sort of support group. Entrepreneur is ROUGH and it helps to have other women in business nearby that can understand (& give feedback) on what you’re experiencing. Two is to always have a lofty vision of what you’d like your brand or business to become. That vision is what will continue to motivate you. It also helps with planning & strategizing. You have an end goal of what you’d like to achieve. Take that information & take actionable steps into achieving it. Stay focused, work hard & it’ll all come together.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Angelic Rose Essentials story. Tell us more about the business.
Angelic Rose Essentials is a wellness brand consisting of healing crystal candles, wellness journals, crystals & other metaphysical items. I aimed to create a healthier candle for those who may not want to be overwhelmed by a lot of chemicals & additives. Each of my 15 signature candle scents were created in my kitchen.

The candles come dressed with healing crystals & herbs that coincides with the purpose of each candle. I have a Prosperity candle, a Divinely Guided candle, To Be Loved candle & many more, all to assist you on your spiritual journey.

Angelic Rose Essentials offers luxurious, highly scented, soy crystal candles at a non-luxury price. We pride ourselves on providing a luxurious & tranquil experience while still maintaining a home-made feel. We also encourage up-cycling with our re-useable candles jars & boxes. We offer $5 off per candle when our customers mail back their candle jars & boxes to have more candles made in them.

All in all, every candle is made with love and light. We aim to bring peaceful experiences to you at every burn.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I admire women who haven’t always had it easy. Who are tenacious, resilient and have some grit. I absolutely adore Maya Angelou. To be such an inspiring, warm and insightful woman after all that she has been through gives me hope. Hope that I can make it despite my circumstances.
