Conversations with Ebone Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebone Allen.

Hi Ebone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a teenager to my early twenties, I dealt with severe cystic acne and honestly proactive just wasn’t working, anything the dermatologist recommended caused more irritation and redness. I was tired of spending money on products that just wouldn’t work so I decided to educate myself and test out different ingredients that could possibly work for my skin type. After trial and error, I created my first skincare product called “Bruja Potion” which is a moisturizing facial oil that has been our BEST SELLER to this day. Friends and family showed tremendous support and started to see progress with their skin as well so I decided to take it to the next level and started to build my brand. Now we offer about 10-12 skincare products that are dedicated to improving and repairing skin barriers for all skin types.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The struggle is definitely real, starting a brand is not easy at all. It takes consistency and love for what you’re doing. If you do not love your brand or what it stands for then it’ll be easier for you to give up and move on. In 2017 I made skincare my priority for myself and to also help others with their journey. I believe I’ve found my calling and my purpose in life so regardless of the sales keep coming in or not, I will continue to do what I can to help myself and my community with their skin concerns or at least provide as much information as possible. My main struggle with this journey is the fact that I’m so protective of my baby (LuluValentineCosmetics) that it’s hard for me to find help and employees because if they aren’t as passionate about skincare as I am, we may have issues. I need everyone around me to be as dedicated and willing to go over and beyond for our customers as much as I am. We’re here to help!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Before I created my skincare brand, I was known for hosting and curating local art shows that were dedicated to local performing artists and visual artists like myself. I’ve been an artist as long as I can remember but in 2013-2014, I picked up a paintbrush and never looked back. I’ve also hosted my own paint and sip events at Eiffel Society in New Orleans, La for a few months with themes that were inspired by New Orleans culture. We served great wine and painted beautiful artwork. Now I’m doing partime work with a Non profit organization to teach visual arts to elementary and middle schools around New Orleans and surrounding areas and inspired them to become whatever they want and work towards their goals. My work is never done!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, LuluValentineCosmetics will become available in retail and online stores all over the United States. Nothing official yet just speaking it into existence! We will continue to build and eventually my goal is create a spa collection that will be highly concentrated and used for professionals only during facial treatments and body treatments in spas all around the world. While continuing to offer lower concentrated products for everyone to use at home for their skincare routine!
