Conversations with Bria Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bria Lee.

Bria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I took my first yoga /pilates class during my freshman year of college. After the class ended, I received an overwhelming feeling of relaxation and my mind felt so refreshed. Since then, I sporadically took yoga classes in order to feel that experience again. I learned that many of the benefits from yoga was a result of a consistent practice.

Since then, I decided to deepen my yoga practice and take it more seriously. Yoga offered me an opportunity to relearn myself on a deeper level, and be more open and honest with who I truly am, not only to others but most importantly to myself. My practice offered me a new set of eyes of viewing the world around me and different perspectives on how to have a more healthy mindset and lifestyle. As a result of the different tools I’ve gained from yoga, I wanted nothing more than to be able to share what I’ve learned with others, especially to those in my community who may not have seen a person who looked like them (a black woman) teaching and practicing yoga. Thus, was the beginning of my teacher training journey.

Over time, yoga showed me the importance of learning to slow down in this busy, fast-paced world that we’ve become accustomed to. Methods of slowing down (i.e., yoga flows, meditation, breathing exercises) allow one to recognize and analyze past and current decisions in a clearer and more sound headspace. I’ve learned different ways to spread love, spill positive thoughts into myself and others. As well as not shying away from encouraging others to understand themselves more and establish a deeper connection with their true self. I’ve acquired tools which allowed me to have better communication with other individuals and also being able to recognize the bigger picture at hand, which is to simply enjoy a life that we all experience for a short amount of time. I’ve always been a person who wants to learn information and share everything of what I learn with others. One of my biggest joys is being able to help others in meaningful ways, no matter how big or small.

Upon taking teacher training, not only was I able to deepen my practice mentally and physically, I adopted ways to translate these methods to other individuals who may be apprehensive of beginning yoga and even to those who may have been practicing already. I accept that I will always be a student of life and experiences, therefore, while I am being a source for others, I am also learning from them. As a result, our encounters will always be an exchange of growth, which I am always grateful for. I offer private and group sessions in order to help those embark on their journey of growth of their mental and physical strength.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I decided to make a huge transition in my life to leave my “corporate job” and fully commit to dedicating my life to my practice and helping others as well. That transition alone was terrifying because the only thought that continued to constantly occupy my mind was how will I continue to handle my financial responsibilities. I was aware that there was a significant change of income with the career path that I was choosing. However, I knew deep down inside this is what I want to do, and I jumped into my fear and tackled it head on.

As a result of staying committed, I was granted the opportunity to work at a yoga studio, which later closed down due to Covid-19. Instantly, I was greeted with that same fear that I faced when I switched careers. What I didn’t yet see at the time was that the year of 2020 would help me transition into the instructor and business owner that I am today.  I never thought that I would be offering private sessions and leading large groups so soon, but this year definitely catapulted me into who I needed to be and fill the shoes that I was so fearful of walking in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a yoga instructor and I offer private yoga sessions for individuals and large groups. Within those sessions, I offer aromatherapy to calm the senses and offer breathing techniques at the beginning and end of the session. I also pride myself on being very detailed with leading each person to proper body alignment while holding and transitioning into yoga poses. Learning correct alignment has helped carry my practice to different levels, and it helped to build strength and familiarize myself with muscles that I wasn’t even aware of. Yoga is not meant to be learned in a hasty way, I make sure to take time to explain and teach each posture in a detailed way to ensure safety and strengthening of each muscle.

All of these body and mental changes is what I truly want to share with others, and I know that it would be such a gem for others, just as it was for me. I make it a point to get to understand my client’s wants and needs in order to make sure they reap all the benefits of their session, and last but not least, being a source and a helping hand while they embark on their journey. In addition to my private sessions, I also offer yoga class sessions on Zoom every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 6:30 AM PST and 6:30 PM PST. All of my services are available on

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
My belief, and what has worked for me is constantly reminding myself every day that, If you stay committed and true to YOU and what you want to do, and also remain consistent with working hard, then the Universe will always continue to pave a road in which you can travel on that will further assist your journey.
