Community Highlights: Meet Ronnie Muhammad of Silent Cinema

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnie Muhammad.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a native of Chicago, IL, my love for movies started as a young child. Growing up in a large family with four brothers, my parents made it a point to have family movie nights as our way of spending quality time together. My dad had the whole setup, surround sound system, big screen, and a catalog of movies to choose from. My mom would allow us to have our choice of snacks we wanted for the night. As a child, those were the nights we look forward to the most. As an adult, my career journey led me into sales working as a Regional Sales Manager at Cogent Communications. As an additional source of income, I joined alongside my two friends and founders of Millennium Age (Jahmal and Dominique Walker) as a consultant.

Millennium Age is an event production company known for Silent Disco parties. I assisted the brand with everything from client prospecting and hosting events. While working with Millennium Age I developed a concept of my own, where we tied the use of headsets with the movie screen. The idea of the ‘Silent Cinema’ was born. Millennium Age utilizes wireless headsets to create a party experience like no other. So, I thought why not bring that same experience to movie watching. I saw an opportunity to deliver a service to your home that reminded me of my childhood. As the demand grew business owners found value in the concept to draw crowds to their establishments. That’s when I knew I’ve created something unique and special.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Once the pandemic hit, we faced the closure of our partner event spaces that hosted silent movie events. Although all of our silent cinema events hosted at partner events spaces abided by Covid policies such as social distancing, once there was mandated closure that was it. However, we shifted the focus back to home rentals. What’s great about The Silent Cinema, it’s a safe way for you and your family to still have some normalcy during these unfamiliar times.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The ‘Silent Cinema’ is a private movie concierge service that provides you with everything you need to create your own viewing experience. Whether it’s from the comfort of your own backyard or event space, everything is customizable. This includes wireless headsets, a projector, and a massive 30ft screen, inflatable chairs, and a popcorn maker upon request. The best part about the ’Silent Cinema’ is that it’s a mobile outdoor movie theater that is completely silent. So, no matter where you are hosting your movie night you won’t disturb those around you. Also, because the custom HD headsets come equipped with three channels, guests are able to toggle between the movie audio and a customized music playlist. It’s an experience like no other and that’s what I’m most proud of. What sets you apart from Drive Through or Movie Theaters? 1. The Silent Cinema is designed for intimate settings. It’s perfect for small gatherings with close friends and family. Since it’s a mobile outdoor movie theater, it’s the perfect way to practice social distancing while entertaining. 2. The Silent Cinema package can be shipped to anyone who is looking to create a viewing experience. We are accessible in 46 different markets.

What matters most to you?
Honestly, seeing the genuine smiles and excitement on people’s faces the first time they experience a silent cinema brings me much joy. It’s a great feeling knowing you are bringing something unique and fresh to individuals looking for a new way to enjoy a night out.
