Community Highlights: Meet Rocsii Frank of The Source LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocsii Frank.

Hi Rocsii, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After enduring life as a teenage mother with little to no access to assistance nor family who could provide us a safe place to go, my circumstances forced me to pivot and find a way that many otherwise, would have been unable. The Source LA came to fruition after landing a job as a recruiter at a Fortune 500 company. Although afraid of this position and environment that was demanding and new, I was blessed to have been mentored by my boss now good friend, Chris Hager who allowed me access to a perspective on the world that changed my life forever. My diligence and eagerness to learn more allowed me the space and opportunity to provide access to resources in various magnitudes that I was using myself at the time. My platform started to grow organically from hundreds to thousands by the day. Through trial and error, I made it here today by being blessed by others and by pouring back into my community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Haha – Is life ever a smooth road? Of course, there were struggles! I was raised in an environment and system that degraded, pulled and tugged on black women, so imagine what that did to my psyche throughout different phases of my life. I’ve overcome and grew to be able to do the work I do now. I had to develop a thick skin to protect myself in the process as well because I’ve learned that even when you go out of your way to help people, some don’t know how to ask for help – this can at times lead to them taking their hurt and struggles out on you. Mentally, emotionally and spiritually, it was draining at first to spend almost 24/7 helping hundreds of people find assistance and resources solely by myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Source LA is a communal organization that currently serves approximately 70K underprivileged residents of the Los Angeles County and surrounding areas by working to curate solutions for every problem. What most may not know about me is that I was in many of their positions at one point in my life. I was frustrated, tired, alone, homeless with a child and had no help. There were angels that came into me and my son’s life during phases who helped us on our journey; some I wish I could thank today but just never seen again – they came with love and went. What sets me apart is my ability to create community and put people in the right places at the right time, whether they are partnerships or members of society. I am most proud of the organic growth that has occurred over the years with The Source LA as well as the turnout and successes of the events, job fairs, networking events that I’ve directly been a part of. I want everyone to know that The Source LA is for the people and that we will continue to provide as much help and resources as we can to help make your today better than yesterday.

What are your plans for the future?
Big plans! After running The Source LA for so long by myself, I finally brought my younger sister, Sophia onboard as my Chief Operating Officer – she’s seriously a genius and innovator who not only rebranded The Source LA and re-built our website to better assist the community, but she has been working on something grand and major (it’s a secret right now). There are big changes occurring on the backend, which I’ve left to my sister to handle. She has helped me scale and allowed me the ability to rejuvenate when I need because this type of work can be challenging at times, especially when you care and want to help as many people as possible. She has the patience to resolve conflict and because of this, we are able to help keep each other balanced and accountable.
