Hi Rami, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off in commercial banking in the late 80’s. I was offered a position with one of the customers of the bank that manufactured industrial metal polishing products, This customer also resold sanding belts to companies that made such items as golf clubs, jet engine parts, automobile parts, wheels, furniture -just about anything that was fabricated out of metal or wood. I left him in the early 90’s and started my own dealership for the distribution of sanding belts called Maverick Abrasives. By the mid 90’s, I was able to start my own manufacturing of sanding belts for industrial B2B sales. This continued until 2015 when we started two B2C portals: Combat Abrasives, catering to the vast custom knife making community, and Renegade Products, catering to truck, car, and boat detailing/cleaning products. In late 2020, we launched our dog care/grooming line called Get Pampered Pups as a B2C portal. Relentless Skin Care was launched this year as an upscale/lux brand. Because our company is more than skin care, we are in a unique position to create a line that has the highest quality ingredients and appealing packaging; We are not constrained by traditional margin pressures and choose to go to market as a premium product.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Successful business is rarely smooth. Our economic model guarantees a high level of competitiveness. Launching a micro/indie brand is challenging during COVID as many spas and retailers were closed. Additionally, supply chain issued were exacerbated as the world and domestic economies slowed.
As you know, we’re big fans of Maverick Abrasives. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a manufacturer of industrial products for the finishing of metal, wood, plastic, glass, and stone. Although we have a dealer network, our sales are primary direct to factory. Our corporate name is Maverick Abrasives. We got to market in under the following trade names: Maverick Abrasives: traditional B2B sales www.maverickabrasives.com: online abrasive sales www.combrasives.com: abrasive sales to the knife making community www.renegadeproductsusa.com: detailing, polishing & cleaning products for cars, trucks, boats, planes; gun cleaning fluids www.getpamperedpups.com: dog & pet grooming liquids & products www.relentlessskincare.com: skincare, tattoo balms, lip balm.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
A continued move towards more online sales and social media branding.
