Community Highlights: Meet Nathalie Schlemer of Les Pawtounes Dog Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathalie Schlemer.

Hi Nathalie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a passionate Dog Lover, Dog Trainer, and Dog mom. I grew up in Northeastern France and dogs and horses were part of my life..My dream was to become a veterinarian but I ended up taking a small detour, coming to the US and studying international business instead, I focused my family and career while taking on rescue cats and dogs. My dog Charlie was particularly challenging, and I decided to make him the best possible dog for my family. I read a ton of books, spent hours on YouTube, signed up for courses on animal behavior and science, mentored under some of the best trainers and practiced A LOT. And with a lot of work, Charlie became the perfect family dog, no longer running away, reactive and aggressive and getting a ton of attention for his impeccable manners. Eventually, friends and neighbors reached out for help with their dogs, and it was clear to me that I should follow my passion and calling. I opened my dog training business a couple of years ago and became an AKC-certified evaluator. I love helping families who struggle with their dog, just like I did.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Very far from a smooth road as I started during the pandemic when clients would cancel because they were sick, we had to practice social distancing which was challenging when training dogs. I had to learn everything on my own and the most important factor was to focus on my goal and to not get pulled into many directions!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Les Pawtounes Dog Training?

I am a woman-owned Dog training business and love helping families who struggle with their dogs to develop a healthy relationship with a mentally healthy, happy, relaxed, and stable pet.

I serve the Mid City, Westside and South Bay of Los Angeles from Palos Verdes, Lomita, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance to Santa Monica. Brentwood and West Los Angeles. I offer private training sessions as well as board and train and adventure and train camps.

I recently started an Adventure and Board camp in Lake Tahoe for those pups who can benefit from a reset in a wilder environment. It’s a lot of fun, filled with enrichment activities, lake swims and lots of off-leash hikes peppered with structured training to ensure the dogs are getting a course correction in their overall behaviors.

What sets me apart is the focus I place on meeting the physical, emotional and mental needs of your dog and understand what the dynamics are with their owners and I mostly coach owners to meet their dogs needs to realize the best mutual level of calm, purpose, and respect.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?

I would encourage anyone to follow their passion, no matter what stage they are in their life, Dog training is not what I had in mind, it is a different trajectory than being a veterinarian but it’s close enough.

I get to make a difference with dog families and meet extraordinary people and dogs while following my passion.
