Community Highlights: Meet Nathalie, one of LA’s Most Inspiring Mindset Coaches

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathalie Botezatu.

Hi Nathalie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a first-generation American, born in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, to two of the best humans on the planet, Camelia and Radu Botezatu, that moved to the USA in 1989 after they got married with hopes of giving their children (me and my brother and best friend Anthony) a better life different than the communist Romania they grew up in themselves. I grew up playing the piano since I was five and also loved the sciences. I went to Kalamazoo College, a small liberal arts school in West Michigan and graduated in 2014 with a double major in Biology (with a Pre Med focus) and in Music (with a focus on piano performance). I spent my entire life pursuing the dream I thought I wanted – to become a doctor. This was a dream that I had since I was a little kiddo but also a dream that coincided with the dreams my parents desired for me. For them, the best thing I could do as a child of immigrants would be to become a doctor with a safe, secure, and prosperous career helping people.

For the longest time, it was what I also thought was the best I could do as well. Two years into medical school, I found myself disappointed by the lack of mental health and holistic wellness advocacy. I decided to take a year off to pursue a coaching business I had been growing on the side since my undergrad education. As it started to grow more and more, I found it so fulfilling to be changing the lives of so many individuals through lifestyle change and mindset support that I decided to drop out of medical school and whole-heartedly pursue my own business full time. In early 2018, I packed up my car and moved across the country, from Michigan to California, to run my location independent online coaching business from one of my favorite places, LA. I wanted to live somewhere where I could eat my favorite donut whenever I wanted (a Sidecar Huckleberry donut) and go salsa dancing every day of the week in one of the most fun salsa scenes in the country. Living somewhere that gave me life and joy, a place where everyone was following their wildest dreams and being their most authentic selves, was one of the biggest contributors to the growth of my business. In LA I felt my best. I was surrounded by the best likeminded friends. And when I was my best, I showed up as my best, I created the best, and I was able to give my clients the best. Another huge contributor to my growth and success was hiring a coach right before I moved to LA and dropped out of medical school. I knew I needed to hire amazing support to support me as I coached and supported my own clients, and especially as I moved through this new season of life change. I wanted the best, so I hired Nick Tillia as my life coach. I can’t describe what a massive difference Nick has made in my life and I’m forever grateful for all the magic and miracles we’ve created the past three years. Now he‘s a life coach for Professional Athletes all over the world and I’ll forever be proud to call him my coach too. He expedited my growth in tremendous ways that would have taken me much longer to create and experience by myself without support.

Three years later, living in Santa Monica, a ten minute walk from the beach, I’m more in love with LA than ever. In addition to my coaching and because I have been a pianist for most of my life, music is still a huge part of me and I often compose my own meditation music for my private clients. Music has the power to really help us connect deeper to ourselves on our healing journeys and being able to write my own music to support my clients even more expansively is one of my favorite things about what I do. With over 1,000+ hours of coaching experience, I’m an International Mindset Coach that supports leaders and entrepreneurs around the world in healing their minds and shifting their limiting beliefs about what is possible within their health, businesses, and relationships, just like I have for myself (more details in obstacles/challenges below). I have been the head mindset coach within an internationally renowned mastermind that generated over 11 million in revenue in 2020. I have also been interviewed by FOX 2 Detroit, Joyfully You Podcast, Dropset Gorgeous Radio and published in the Journal of Scientific Reports and the Journal of Molecular Biology and Evolution for my mental health research.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the first things that ever shook me in my life was having been involved in a sexual assault case while in medical school. Having to not only tackle the grueling coursework that medical school demands but also being in an academic environment where sexual assault victims were not supported was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through. The lack of mental health support by the institution really lit a fire in me about standing up for myself and following my heart and supporting other individuals through trauma and into healing so that they can truly thrive in all aspects of their life. A year and a half into going full-time in my coaching business, I found myself dealing with another life curveball. I was diagnosed with a mysterious grapefruit-sized tumor on my uterus at the age of 27. Because I was so young and the tumor had grown so very fast, it was very likely that the tumor was cancerous and/or the possibility of me ever having children was in jeopardy as well. After years of guiding others in healing their bodies and minds, I was faced with the challenge of healing my own body with a powerful mindset – proving the holistic work I had believed in all along could work on me too.

Miraculously but not surprisingly, my tumor was able to be removed cancer-free, and my recovery was 5x faster than expected by my physicians! A normal hospital stay after an invasive surgery like I had was 4-5 days. I was out of bed within three hours and out of the hospitals 24 hours post-op. Woohoo! One more challenge I’d like to touch on is in regards to deciding to leave my medical school education. The hardest part about dropping out of medical school to pursue my own business was the fear of disappointing my parents. They doubted my decision at first, but after seeing my growth and the impact, I’ve been able to have coaching people all over the world, they’re my biggest fans now and my biggest supporters. A message I have to other children of immigrants scared to step outside of expectations set by your immigrant parents… When you follow your dreams and create your own legacy, you get to bring your parents along with you and include them in what it is that you’re building. And though they may be resistant at first because they want what is best for you, they will rejoice in what it is that you feel called to create and they’ll be so proud of you for following your heart. When you follow your heart, it is a win for EVERYONE.

We’ve been impressed with HealthNat, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue running my mindset coaching business with my own private clients while also supporting other business owners as a mindset experts in their communities. I’m currently serving as the head of mindset coaching in a fitness coaching business and have also taught as a mindset expert in other spaces such as dating, healthcare, engineering, and law. My favorite thing about what I teach is that it is universal and that it can be applied in any aspect of life where one desires transformation. Once COVID is over, I also look forward to traveling and speaking on all things mindset internationally. I’m currently working on my own music album, “Love Story,” to be released by the end of 2021. It will be a collection of minimal piano music that tells a story while also having musical meditation elements like binaural beats and sacred frequencies mixed in! There may also be a book in the works about my tumor and healing journey in the years to come too 🙂
