Community Highlights: Meet Natasha Landenberger of Muses & Rebels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Landenberger.

Hi Natasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved fashion and art expressed with drawing, photography or handmade items. I graduated from Otis College of Art & Design with a BFA in Fashion Design. I worked as a designer and design director in the fashion industry for seven years and then took an unexpected break to travel. The truth is, I was laid off. At the time, it was both shocking and devastating, but it was the best thing that could have happened to change my life. I was able to re-evaluate what was important to me in life and career choices. During my time off spent traveling, I began making thread wrapped chains and hand-beaded necklaces inspired by one of my closest friends while visiting her family in Osaka, Japan. Upon returning to LA, I was encouraged by my mom to start my own jewelry line which became Muses & Rebels.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges is maintaining the growth and expansion of my brand while having a life balance and raising two kids. I manage my business on my own and hand make all jewelry pieces currently. There isn’t enough time in a day to be a business owner, shop administrator, designer, social media content creator, photographer, sell products, manage marketing, and also be a full-time mom. Owning a retail business also comes with financial struggles because you only make money if you sell the product. You also invest your own money into the business and material costs.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Muses & Rebels is a line of handmade jewelry and second-hand/vintage clothing for Women and Men. All jewelry pieces are designed by me and also hand-made to order. My designs are often multi-functional – a chain wrapped with ombré thread can be worn as a necklace, a chain for your mask, or a wrap bracelet. My pieces are not mass-produced and I value that about Muses & Rebels.

What makes you happy?
Being with family and friends makes me so happy. I enjoy surrounding myself with people I care about and being there for others. I also really love the beach. I need to live near an ocean because being on a beach always brings me joy.
