Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Marquez-Soriano.
Hi Natalie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For over half of my life, I suffered from anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and behaviors. I became a mom at age 17 and by age 19 had two kids, lived on my own, was working full time, and pursuing my college education. I eventually was able to complete college with a Master’s degree. Throughout my life though, I had always felt misunderstood, insignificant, and alone. And it showed up in my relationships. I had a hard time relating to people including my own family and children. I ended up marrying a man I barely knew at 23 and we were divorced a few years later. Then I met my current husband. Fell in love, had a couple more kids, got married, and I thought I was doing ok for a while, but the dark battle in my mind, which was also a spiritual one, almost overcame me. I remember sitting in my car one night, crying so hard from the internal turmoil I was experiencing that I couldn’t even see my hand in front of me. I was consumed with tears and hyperventilating. I had ran off after an argument with my husband, at this point I was around age 36, and I was so deeply troubled that I had lost almost all hope for any chance at living a joyful and fulfilling life with healthy relationships. I yelled and screamed at God asking him why he had not granted my cries for death after all these years. There were times when I begged him to take me. I had even made a couple of attempts to take my own life and failed. “Why are you allowing me to feel this pain?” I asked. “I can’t take another moment of living like this, so either you take it away or I will.!” I said this with a decided and committed heart that my next step was definite suicide.
In that moment, I experienced what I call a miracle. A cool breeze blew through my car, my tears and hyperventilating stopped immediately and the violent noise that was saturating my mind was gone. Quiet. There was complete silence and peace like I had never heard or felt before. I felt as if I were full one second of rage, pain, anger, loneliness, and heartbreak, and then empty and free the next. I turned the car on, drove home, and have been healed since. I went on with my life not wanting to die anymore. Shortly after, I was invited to a transformational training and it was there that I discovered that I had not actually been living but was just surviving. I had been praying for an intervention in my life and asking God to direct me to what was next for me in my career. I walked into the training room on a Friday evening in Sept. of 2015, I saw the Trainer walk up to the front and begin her orientation for the weekend, and I knew. I felt that this was exactly what I was meant to do. I hadn’t even take the training yet or heard more than a sentence or two but I knew. So I spent the next six years studying, taking trainings, certification programs, and coordinating trainings to learn and develop myself in the context of transformation. I now own and operate Soriano Coaching, a transformational training and coaching business, and Living Possibilities, a non-profit for suicide prevention. My husband and I went through a rough patch for the first several years of our marriage and almost called it quits.
Thanks to the support we received through transformational trainings, coaching, our book clubs, and our wonderful church family we are thriving and have a healthy happy relationship. I am grateful to have gone through the circumstance that I had gone through, I believe it has all equipped me to be able to serve and support others who have similar life experiences. At the least, it allows me to relate to others and offer compassion, grace, empowerment, and encouragement. I believe it’s what God has called me to do. It’s my contribution to the world and my gift back to him. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the extraordinary people God put in my life. My mentors, coaches, pastors, friends, and my loving husband have been answers to prayers. I give all glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus. Soriano Coaching is now working on a Children’s leadership training which will be in Feb 2022 and a women’s retreat which is scheduled for October 2022. I couldn’t be more excited and grateful. Thank you for allowing me to share my story. I hope it gives someone else hope.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. Anything that is valuable comes with prices to pay. Sacrificed to be made, and trials to overcome. It’s all a part of the process though and I appreciate every moment of it and the learning available through it all.
As you know, we’re big fans of Soriano Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our company is called Soriano Coaching. We are a Christ-centered organization providing Transformational trainings and Coaching. We have one-on-one coaching, group coaching, leadership development, and experiential training events that are designed to have people experience breakthroughs in all areas of their lives. There are a lot of coaching programs out there and I believe any type of coaching can be valuable. I’ve personally experienced a few of them. I’d say what makes us different is that we aren’t giving tips, advice, or a to do list to have a person be more productive or successful. Rather, we coach to the “being’ in human being. We ask questions that are designed to have you arrive at insights that open up possibilities you may not have seen or that may not have been available to you up until then. This has you creating your experience in life (in relationships, career, finances, health, etc.) and creating the results you say you are committed to. It’s identifying what’s been limiting you and eliminating it. We also incorporate biblical principles for leadership and extraordinary living. Anyone who reaches out to us receives a complimentary connection call. I am super excited for the Children’s leadership training we are creating called G.I.A. Gratitude and Integrity Agency. For ages 6-11. It’s a collaborate effort between both of our companies. Soriano coaching and Living Possibilities. Details and registration available on our website. I am also pretty proud of our Goodie bags for the Homeless event we do twice a year with Living Possibilities. We take a team of people to Downtown LA and hand out 200 bags filled with hygiene necessities, snacks, and more. Our next event is Jan 8th.
What matters most to you?
Being who God wants me to be for the people in this world who he entrusts to me. Serving as he served, loving as he loved, empowering and standing for people as he did. Impacting as many people as possible so they can experience life and love in abundance.
