Today we’d like to introduce you to Larriet Emari.
Hi Larriet, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been around music all my life through my father Lorence Michaels and my whole family. I personally didn’t really feel the call to pursue it until 13, that’s when I started to take it seriously. I had gone through a heartbreak and as a family, we had just been through so much adversity. I started to write what I was feeling down and it was very therapeutic. At that age, I found my faith and through faith it was like God was giving me a way out. I started to discover who I really was, my dreams and goals and just went from there. I told my dad I wanted to pursue music and he let me use his studio until I was able to get my own. I made my first beats when I as 15 and actually some of those are on my second studio album called theillestmelodies. I continued to write and produce throughout the years and also taught myself how to direct and edit music videos. In 2009 my father decided to make me the President of our multi-entertainment company called Ha La Entertainment. I went to college at Full Sail University in 2017 for my Bachelors in Music Business just to become well rounded and it was a great experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Homelessness, instability, and poverty throughout the years but through it all, I’ve always had God and my family.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ha La Entertainment. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Ha La Entertainment LLC is a multi-entertainment company that I run alongside my dad Lorence Michaels who is the founder, mother Teyonka Poteat who is the CEO/CFO, my brother Mikey Smit runs a subsection of the company called Soul&Gutta, and my other brother Rivaughn is our drummer and equipment manager. We write, produce, engineer and master music. We direct and edit music videos, documentaries, vlogs, etc. We also have photoshoots as well. Everything is all in house, so in the family you can say, that’s something that I love.
I think what sets us apart is that as a family, we all have one mission and goal, and it is to make it with each other and along the way, help others. Our shared faith holds us together and is what has been holding together throughout the years.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would say you have to love what you are doing. Beyond fame, clout, or anything like that. You have to fall in love with the process and the journey because it won’t be easy but your love for it and knowing that you have a true purpose will get you through.
