Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Mainstain.
Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated nursing school in 2009 with a RN/BSN degree and began my career in nursing at Los Robles Hospital. It was a good first job where I gained valuable experience and sharpened my skills as a nurse. After a year at the hospital, my next job was at West Hills Surgical Center. In this role, I prepped and recovered patients from surgeries and assisted doctors with outpatient surgical procedures. This is also where I worked daily with the doctor who inspired me to pursue nursing…my dad! After ten years in clinical nursing, I decided I wanted to take a more entrepreneurial approach to my career. At West Hills, I worked closely with ENT and facial plastic surgeon Dr. Matt Hershcovitch. Dr. Hershcovitch and I would frequently discuss an idea we had to start a mobile facial aesthetics business to enhance people’s lives with convenience, expertise, and compassion. Together we created MK Aesthetics Inc., a concierge cosmetic injections business. We officially launched in May 2019 and the business has grown quickly during our first two years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most of the country, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted our business in March 2020. I suddenly had to cancel upcoming appointments and was unsure when we would be able to reschedule. After months of uncertainty, in May 2020 I learned I would be able to begin providing services again. Even though I was able to work, business was still slow as many patients were hesitant to schedule in person appointments. In addition, my husband and I have two young children and finding the time to work with schools closed was challenging. In order to balance work while being a mom, I started seeing patients evenings and weekends. Being a working mom with a fairly new business during the pandemic certainly has been an obstacle.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MK Aesthetics is a concierge/mobile company that provides facial aesthetic services such as Botox/Dysport injections and dermal fillers in the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas. We are unique in that we come to your home, office, or any convenient location. I have clients who work full time or are busy parents without child care and appreciate the convenience we provide. Additionally, I collaborate with other small businesses such as salons and spas. I have become a regular guest at a Calabasas hair salon, My Salon Bae, where clients will schedule their various appointments at one convenient location. Even more, MK Aesthetics provides an award-winning medical-grade skincare line, Alumier MD. We advise clients on specific daily skincare products to use that will enhance their consistent injections with gorgeous results.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m grateful for all my clients! I started with a small following and by word of mouth, I have expanded more than I ever could have expected. I get texts and calls daily from new people telling me they were referred by a friend. I take such pride in what I do and appreciate all the support. I knew for years that I wanted to be a nurse because I love helping people. Aesthetics is a specialty that I am passionate about, and look forward to growing my business further. Thank you for reading my story!
