Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Pierce.
Hi Janelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
At the start of the pandemic, I was a full-time Dietitian working a normal 9 to 5. I made the difficult decision to quit my job and stay home with my three kids. One of which was only a few months old at the time. I felt this was the best decision for my family’s health and also wanted to be at home more with my children in their younger years. Being a mom of three (ages 8, 3 and 2), bounce houses have been the center of our parties for kid’s entertainment. The kids love to have themed parties, but I always felt the bounce houses we would rent (the primary bold colors) kind of stuck out like a sore thumb and didn’t quite mesh well with the party themes. I stumbled across a company in Texas on Instagram that offered white bounce houses and thought WOW genius! A bounce house that one still provided the fun entertainment that kids enjoy and two, aesthetically pleasing for moms that wanted that picture perfect party! Sounded like a win win to me! Coming from working full time, I still wanted to be able to contribute financially. I started to do my research and noticed there really wasn’t anything like that in our area. From there, I did my do diligence on the inflatables business and just went for it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With starting any new business venture, there’s definitely obstacles and challenges. I knew absolutely nothing when it came to starting an inflatables business. Luckily, I have started a business before, Gray Haven, an e-commerce baby store. From having that entrepreneurial background, I had an idea of what it would take to get started, but this was a totally different playing field. I was going from providing products as a business to the service/entertainment industry. It took A LOT of research figuring out the legal portions, insurance, finding reputable suppliers, the list goes on! After those obstacles of just getting started and learning the business of it, the hardest challenge I would say is getting our name out there. Marketing is HUGE for any business! In the inflatables business it is mainly word of mouth that will bring you your clients and returning clients, so this is the part we consistently put our efforts into.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Modern Bounce is a modern bounce house rental service company. Our most popular ‘The Classic’ is our all ages bounce house that has been the most versatile for kid and adult parties. It was one of the first unique styles in our area with its show-stopping A-frame style with covering! Its huge front opening makes the perfect photo-op!
Our proudest moments are receiving photos of families and friends enjoying our bounce houses. Getting to be a part of those special moments is why we love what we do.
Customer service is our top priority. We go above and beyond for our clients. We get to know our clients and local vendors well. By having great connections with local vendors, we’re able to assist our clients with other vendor needs. We are so thankful of our clients, returning clients, and local vendors!
