Community Highlights: Meet Haylie Sigler of Hay Suga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haylie Sigler.

Hi Haylie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I knew I always wanted to work in an industry that helped people, never would I have known that becoming an Esthetician and doing hair removal would lead me in that direction. I dropped out of community college with the fear of never being successful in anything I had planned for myself. A couple of years pass and I grew a passion for the beauty of skin and hair removal. I decided to take the leap of faith and applied to Esthetician school, not knowing what I was getting myself into. It ended up being the best eight months of my life in school. Going through school, I immediately knew I wanted to do hair removal. I took an after-school program class called “sugaring” which is a form a hair removal. That’s when I knew my passion had grew SO strong. Straight out of school and passing my State Board/becoming licensed, I applied and got my first job in the sugaring industry! Who knew that helping someone remove hair off of their body could be one of the most rewarding things. The way I could make a person feel so beautiful and empowered after was a feeling that was unmatched. I was starting to become someone important in these people’s lives. They started to trust me with their body and our little “therapy sessions”.

After working here for six months, I got offered to work at a salon renting out my own room. I was beyond nervous. I knew someday I wanted to have my very own place but I never knew it would be so fast. I decided to trust my gut and take that chance. It was one of the best things I ever did, although it wasn’t easy. I had to start completely from the bottom with no experience in having a business and building my clientele from the ground up. Without my strong passion in what I did or the support of family and friends, I don’t know if this could have been possible. My business began to grow with clients and I was overwhelmed with the excitement to meet all these people that wanted to support and trust ME. That’s when I realized that the industry of skin was my way of helping people in this world. I ended up leaving the salon and renting my own little booth out of a place with multiple suites. I can’t thank enough all the people who have supported me in any way because Hay Suga wouldn’t be possible the past two years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like with any business, there are always bumps in the road. One of my biggest ones was running a business. I had no idea how to do anything. Some things like booking clients, how to solve problems, order within the industry, the list is endless. Every struggle comes with a reward though. I did endless research and contacted multiple sources to help me.

One of the hardest things was managing my time with owning a business. Trying to balance my time for work and for my personal life is one thing I had to learn along the way. As much as I love my job and what I do, I never get a “clock out” time. Of course, I get to leave work but I never really get to stop working. When I’m not at work, I’m replying to messages, ordering supplies, prepping for the next day. I really had to learn that I couldn’t be available 24/7 for my business and that having a personal life was healthy. It was a hard pill to swallow for me because I couldn’t realize that at first. My business will always be a part of me, but with healthy boundaries, I can keep this business running.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Hay Suga is a hair removal business specializing in Sugaring. The Sugar paste is made up of just three ingredients, sugar, lemon, and water. With these all-natural ingredients, it causes less irritation and great for all skin types. Growing up, I always had very sensitive skin. When I entered the beauty industry, I wanted to make sure that the products I would use on people would help their skin and not irritate it more. That’s why I grew such love for sugaring. Sugaring is all natural but it is also room temperature so there is no chance of burning the client’s skin. I remove it with the natural hair growth on the body so the results afterward are amazing. Absolutely no hair left behind! The motive behind Hay Suga is to make it a place where people can feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin. I wanted people to be able to trust me with their body and leave my suite feeling unstoppable. Everyone goes through skin care problems in life and I want them to feel like they’re not alone. Hay Suga makes sure that the services that are offered are fast and affordable. I want people who come to make this skincare service a part of their lives and not something they drag to do. I hope that Hay Suga can make people feel happier and empowered in their everyday lives.

What makes you happy?
Not very many people can say that their business brings them happiness, but it does for me. I wake up for work every day excited to hear all the new things my clients get to tell me about their lives. It’s so rewarding to know that Hay Suga is something that I have started all by myself and was able to accomplish. It makes me happy all the people who have tried to support my business in any way they can. All the little things, I get to look back at my business and see how far I have come. I never knew that I would be where I’m at in life with my business and it brings me so much happiness. To know that I can change the way people feel about their skin and how happy they are with their results is something that keeps me going. I love that I can share my passion of sugaring with my clients by letting me perform this artwork on their skin.
