Community Highlights: Meet DJ Bad Gyrl of 22.3 Takeover Vegas Radio

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Bad Gyrl.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Started my radio career many many years back. The man responsible for giving me my radio opportunity was Bruce Garrett. I left my wireless franchise to do radio full time.

Over the years in radio I observed what exactly what was missing in radio and told myself if I ever had a chance to own a station I would take what’s missing and implement that. I have a great radio career but I wanted to challenge myself and try to figure out the blueprint to owning a radio station. So I took the leap and fast forward to 2017, I started my radio station 22.3 Takeover Vegas Radio by 2019 Stardome digital voted us number one in the US.
We are live in 166 countries 510 cities… I oversee a team of radio personalities… I am a businesswoman day and night I am a workaholic. I am in the process of opening my sister station very soon by summer if not fall off next year. I’ve Been featured in multiple press articles, from Gay Vegas to iHeart Radio interviews, Etc. Mayor Goodman just proclaimed February 14th is DJ BAD GYRL DAY! That was a huge honor of course. Accolades don’t mean much without gratitude. I am very grateful for my accomplishments thus far however my pride is in my radio team.
When I am not doing radio, you could find me working in the financing, private investments and financial advising. I am excited to start school April 5th at Harvard Business School online. I am also the creative director and producer of a radio talk show called The BlackBox Series think of red table talk but the crazy funny version that’s us! Tune in every Sunday 9pm. I am a very busy woman. I love to stay productive and I am focused on accomplishing a lot this year. Stay Tuned…

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely wouldn’t call anything in radio smooth or easy. Covid was not fun for business but we made it through… I have dealt with a lot when it comes to radio in general as a business. I’ve seen a lot. I’ve had to deal with people doubting me, to people who I thought were loyal to me were absolutely not loyal. I’ve seen it all in radio, I don’t think anything shocks me anymore. I can tell you countless negative experiences I’ve had with people in business but I don’t wish to give that any energy. All I will say is I am writing a book perfectly titled: Radio Chose Me! That will explain everything I’ve been through in my radio career. I believe challenges arise with anything you do it’s how you respond to the issue. I personally know how to offset a challenge I am prepared for all of it. The lessons I learned are not all money is good money. I know I’ve done my absolute best to help people and those who took my advice great those that have not great. I am blessed beyond measure I am blessed to experience all of it it’s apart of my journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a day part radio station NOT A PODCAST. It annoys me very much when people ask if it’s a podcast. Just because podcasting is trendy doesn’t mean everyone wants to jump on that bandwagon. We do not. This is broadcasted live. The takeover team is known for that word right there. TEAM we have a very solid team now and it feels just like we’re brothers and sisters! We always uplift each other and root each other on. We’re all so close. I am very proud Mayor Goodman also recognized our station on May 23rd as TAKEOVER VEGAS RADIO DAY. I feel blessed to work with some really great people. This is my second family. If you want to join our team, please contact us on our website.

What are your plans for the future?
The biggest thing we are planning for is our Guinness World Record attempt coning in the next few months. This is by far the biggest thing we will do together as a team. Nobody has set this record so I’m ready to be the first. As I stated I am working on opening our sister station with my guy Angelo. I am excited so many things going on in the near future. I am living in the present moment grateful for it all. Thank you for this interview.
