Community Highlights: Meet Diana Silva of Molé Mama

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Silva.

Hi Diana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a San Diego-based author, home chef, vlogger, speaker, and podcaster. I grew up on a California Dairy Farm and have always loved to COOK and EAT! I love cheese, ice cream, and I’m leading an effort to make chorizo a new food group. My most cherished kitchen tool is her Abuelita’s magical molcajete, and I use it every day! Crunchy tacos stuffed with creamy mashed potatoes are my all-time favorite taco, and I love hosting taco parties! My favorite recipe ingredients include potatoes, avocados, cilantro, limes, garlic, onions, and all types of PEPPERS! And I prefer cooking with real ingredients, no low fat, over-processed foods in my recipes! I love to BBQ – Santa Maria Style on Oakwood, slow roasted with homemade marinades and rubs! In addition to Mexican food, I love Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian food and all types of seafood! My culinary training began when I was nine years old on the day my mama asked me to help her make flour tortillas. My mama expertly poured water, flour, salt, and a little baking powder in the bowl, and my heart raced with excitement as I eagerly put my small hands in the bowl and tried to follow my mama’s patient instructions on how to mix it. I loved the way the sticky dough felt on my little fingers. I was so very proud and excited to help my mama make her legendary fluffy, soft, flavorful tortillas. My master chef and beautiful mama taught me to makeover a 100 of her Mexican family recipes over several decades of cooking together! I love sharing her treasured family recipes with you and hope that they will bring you joy and become family favorites.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My business has brought me so much joy and remarkable opportunities. I’ve made some colossal mistakes. The hardest thing for me has been to transition from a hobby to a legitimate, striving business. I’ve run very successful organizations in corporate America, but I led this business with my heart and failed to bring my business A-game to the party. Thankfully, with my hubby’s help, a business plan, financial goals, I’m turning the corner becoming profitable. I have some huge plans for our future. I’ve also learned that it’s essential to research potential partnerships, and if something sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Every wrong turn I’ve made, I heard that little voice inside me saying don’t do it, and I ignored it. My advice is to listen to that little voice. I know I am NOW!

As you know, we’re big fans of Molé Mama. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m asking everyone to return to their kitchens to preserve their living and passed ancestor’s favorite recipes and stories for future generations. “We need to try to preserve our cultures and not just let those favorite recipes disappear forever. The common thread of every cherished family recipe is that they were homemade with love, and that’s the real secret ingredient.” For many home chefs, cooking is their preferred love language, and that’s why we cherish their recipes. Their love has the power to transcend an ordinary recipe into magic! I encourage everyone to preserve those precious recipes and the stories that make them special. And I invite those whose recipes have been lost or have faded over time to subscribe to her YouTube channel, there are plenty of recipes and traditions to share, and you just might be inspired to create your own because “Every Recipe Tells a Story.” I’m so very honored to see our recipes being made in homes all over the world and spreading love one bite at a time.

I’m a writer, podcaster, vlogger, award-winning home chef, speaker, mother of two, dog lover, former ranch kid, and digital marketer. I’ve developed recipes for well-known brands, hosted private virtual cooking demos and classes. And lead grief workshops.
