Community Highlights: Meet Craig Morfett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Morfett.

Hi Craig, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I come from a long line of builders, so I spent a fair share of my childhood helping out on building sites. That was supposed to be my destiny, but as I was old enough to do it properly, I quickly figured there must be a better way to earn money.

That, of course, didn´t happen overnight, and I have had a chance to enjoy the beauties of farming, scrap yards, and door-to-door sales. I was selling cars for some years until I decided to move to Barcelona. I was always very assertive with my decisions, so I found a job within two days, then packed my bags for my Spanish adventure.

At that time, I was working in a call center looking out on the sea, and everything was pretty stable. The job was easy, the money was good… but my son came along shortly, and that was a quick realization that I actually wanted more. Not just money-wise, but also I wanted to be more for my family and for the world. I quickly got promoted to country manager, and we moved back to the U.K.

By that time, my best friend was already working in digital. In one of our prolific conversations, we decided to create a company together. Meanwhile, I needed to earn money, so I utilized my building skills to become a carpenter in a landscape company 6am-6pm. Then 8pm-1am, I was building websites.

At the same time, another project came along, and this one was huge. In one of the friendly conversations with my neighbor, he mentioned an idea he dreamt of ten years ago and never did anything with it. It was a self-adhesive gift wrap. The eco-friendly movement has already started, so it was perfect timing. I exclaimed, “Let´s do it!”

We have been developing Instawrap for over two years. We made it to production and sold it in various stores in the U.K., including a repeat order from WHSmith. We are now launching it in the States 2023, so I am sure you will notice it when it booms.

I am a very energetic person, and I have ADHD, which I treat as a superpower rather than a condition. Thanks to that, I have managed to grow several businesses successfully at the same time.

My digital business has grown to the point where I now have an entire team of very talented people worldwide. I have created a company that represents my personality. We are confident, we are modern, we provide outstanding quality and service, and most importantly, we are real. We are not your typical agency, where we give you a website and leave you be. We are always there for you, for support, or for a pint. We are actually now partnered with Elite CXS – an award-winning Mystery Shopping company – to expand our services even further.

These days, I have seen so many businesses succeed and fail. That is why people often turn to me for business advice, which I genuinely enjoy giving because I love seeing people succeed. It makes them grow, which in turn makes me grow, improving everyone involved at the same time.

As you can see, I still ended up in construction, except now I work on digital building sites (all puns intended).

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest part for me was the first three years in this business. Finding clients in particular. Trying to prove yourself to customers with no proof is not an easy task. Once I had reviews and an extensive portfolio, it became pretty smooth.

In general, I am sure that there have been many problems and issues along the road. However, thinking back, I believe that when a problem arises, it is easily overcome with the right mindset.

I would not be able to pinpoint something specific. I am not a dramatic person, so there was never a situation that nearly broke me or something along those lines. I see a problem, I come up with the best solution possible.

I do the same for my clients. When it is your business and something goes wrong, it is very common to panic a little bit (or a lot). Because of this no-drama personality, I am like a rock to my customers. They talk it out. We can come up with what to do next together and leave the conversation confident in their actions. This mental health aspect is crucial for business owners, so I take it seriously.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Craig Morfett Design helps businesses around the world grow with outstanding websites, researched marketing & bespoke consultancy. We are not a traditional digital agency. In fact, we are not an agency at all. We get genuinely excited about your project, and that passion drives us to push your company’s success. When we work with you, we become part of your team. Your problem – is our problem, our solution – is your solution. We can be your digital partners, not just a one website fling.

We have outstanding reviews on Trustpilot. We often get recommended on social media by our existing customers. In fact, they are even happy to chat with anyone searching for a digital guy. We are very proud of our reputation, as it really is a huge deal these days. New companies are popping up every day. It is often only your reviews and portfolio that will make a difference.

We work with businesses of all sizes. We understand that if you are not a huge corporation, it can be hard to find time to come up with a brief for your designer. That is why we do not require a formal brief. Our team researches your brand, your target audience and does everything for you. We can write your texts, provide imagery, etc. We will create a design that resonates with your audience. We let you focus on what you do best while doing all your digital work for you.

We can provide flexible payment plans, as we understand that cash flow can be vital for you.

We provide you with actionable insights because we know that Google is full of advice on what you need to do. Yet, nobody tells you how to actually do it.

As we work with clients all over the world, our team has translators, so it doesn’t matter what language you speak or what language you want your website in. Time zones don’t exist for us, not because we don’t sleep, of course, but because we genuinely love what we do. Actually, our team members live in different countries, which allows us to be open almost 24/7.

On our website, you can find a lot of information about us, about all the details of our services. We have a free business resource center with tips & tricks, trends, explanations of complicated concepts, etc. Our portfolio isn’t limited to just images. You can visit each website and watch our case studies voiced over by me, explaining the whole journey. You can also see other things we have done, like branding, social media pages, and print designs.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Haha, You put me on the spot for this one, so I called my parents to see what they had to say.

“Bloody nightmare” – they both laughed. Then added that I was good most of the time 😉

I think I was very adventurous, always curious, and impulsive at times. I grew up on the farm, so I loved my home and loved playing with all the animals. Spent a lot of time outside. I had a very happy childhood filled with love. No drama here, I am afraid 😉

I was never mad about the school. However, I have always loved learning. I just couldn’t figure out the constraints of traditional schooling. Thinking outside the box wasn’t a priority back then. Luckily it is all changing these days.

I always loved my tech. Playstation, Internet as soon as I had it…

Oh, and of course music. I grew up in a very musical household. My grandad was a musician playing with superstars of his time like Johnny Cash. Country music has settled in my heart forever. This was the very first reason I wanted to visit the States when I was little. In fact, now, I play and sing myself when I am in Nashville.
