Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Yashari Becher.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career as a real estate lawyer but after a few years, realized that law firm life was not for me. I went on to launch a nonprofit organization in the rare disease space and then a charter middle school. In 2014, I co-founded HopSkipDrive, a tech-enabled ride service for kids ages 6+, and in 2020, Dr. Jamie Sands and I started building Pearline Health, the company focused solely on dental hygiene, offering tech-driven 30-minute teeth cleanings with transparent pricing in salon-style studios.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the rare times in my career that things have felt smooth, it is usually because I have gotten complacent. The discomfort of pushing oneself to think bigger and do better is what drives me and my organization forward. My struggles have mostly been around not allowing for sufficient blocks of time to focus on the big hair issues related to whatever I’m working on rather than the day-to-day or even quarter-to-quarter questions.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Pearline Health is transforming an antiquated dental industry by focusing solely on dental hygiene, offering tech-driven, 30-minute teeth cleaning and whitening with transparent pricing in salon-style studios.
Without any drills, scrubs, or bulky equipment, our studios don’t look, sound, feel or smell like dentist offices, which is intentional to make guests feel more comfortable compared to traditional dental offices.
We’re women-founded and proud to be the only company using teledentistry to allow for dental cleanings outside of the dental office to make oral care more accessible, efficient and enjoyable.
Each cleaning and whitening appointment is no longer than 30 minutes, starting and ending on time, designed so guests can easily come in during coffee or lunch breaks. Additionally, guests are able to easily book appointments, share and access health histories and past visit summaries, check-in, receive post-appointment recommendations, and more through our proprietary technology accessible via mobile device.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I am naturally a relationship-driven person, so I tend to be less strategic about networking and gravitate more toward people with whom I connect on a personal level. I have found that approach to be much more effective than finding people who fit a specific mold or come from a certain industry. Of course, there are always going to be folks we want to get in front of, and I find authenticity to be the best approach.
