Hi Ash, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started KAHN™ in response to a genuine need I faced in my own life after realizing most men don’t start thinking about skincare until it’s too late. That was the case for me, someone with oily skin and no skincare routine, which lead to random breakouts and dull skin. As I walked through aisle after aisle of a local beauty store, I came to a few conclusions: skincare in general is foreign and confusing for men, there were no brands that spoke to me, and going to the beauty store was a major inconvenience that I didn’t want to do again. The good products were all packaged and formulated for women, the men’s products were not addressing the skin issues of minorities and people of color like myself. This lead to me working with a dermatologist and cosmetic chemist to develop the perfect skincare routine for guys like me. I put that together with sleek, minimal packaging that was both stylish and functional – KAHN™ was born. A modern + methodical skincare brand for men delivered right to their door.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We face many obstacles daily. In general starting a beauty brand is difficult since manufacturing minimums are so much higher than other categories like fashion. When you’re placing that first order it’s really a commitment and you HAVE to be sure that your product is good, formulas are clean and tested, and that there’s a demand for what you’re selling. We launched in the middle of the pandemic, which was difficult at first due to the shutdowns and overall shift in consumer behavior. During the pandemic many businesses and brands shifted their brick and mortar business to online; this made social media and search engines even more crowded and drove costs up. What we’ve learned so far is that there’s a growing demand for wellness and personal care, especially for men, who have been traditionally underserved and not spoken to by bigger brands. Our biggest challenge is education; we are selling men a product that has traditionally been marketed to women and most men have not been taught about skincare.

KAHN is a clean, non-toxic personal care brand for men. We made a no non-sense, quality grooming routine in three simple steps called the Fundamental Skincare Kit. We developed all of our formulas to address the issues people of color face while still suitable for all skin types.
