Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoey Taylor.
Zoey, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was taken out of school during kindergarten and moved off the grid where we lived through my teen years. Without neighbors, tv, phone (or electricity, most of the time), I spent my time drawing and reading. I read biographies and dreamed of moving to LA, which I finally did. Without a work or education history to put on a job application, I started tattooing and have been loving it for the past 18 years.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As a kid, all I wanted to draw was faces. I started doing portraits immediately when I started tattooing, and it’s still my favorite thing to do. But my creativity comes out more in my compositions. I’m passionate about balance, contrast, moving lines, simplicity, and capturing the perfection of a moment. I like to create images that I find visually pleasing. I’m inspired by favorite artists like Mucha, or favorite sculptors like Bernini, but mostly I’m inspired by what nature creates.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Being able to make a living creating art is already a success, to me as a person. But to me as an artist, success means creating art that’s beautiful. It means constantly learning, staying inspired, striving to be better, challenging myself. When an artist stops trying or stops caring, then he becomes a failure.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
