Check out Vignes Rooftop Revival’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vignes Rooftop Revival.

Vignes, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
We are a Gypsy jazz/swing band that evolved from late-night jam sessions on the roof of our loft in the Arts District. We get our name from our rooftop garden, and from the street where we live. Our street was named after Jean Luis Vignes, the first French winegrower in California. In the 19th century the neighborhood where we live was covered by his vineyards.

Over the years we have evolved into a rotating cast of several dozen characters, and we perform 3-5 nights per week (almost exclusively downtown) and only get to shows by walking, skating, or cycling (we occasionally take the train and very rarely use a car).

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We evolved from late night jam sessions where we just had fun playing music we love (Gypsy jazz, swing, Eastern European folk music, bluegrass, choro and samba music from Brazil, etc.) in our rooftop garden, and we try to bring that energy to our shows. Our goal is to have a great time making music with our friends, and hopefully the people who hear us leave happier and more relaxed then when they arrived.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
For us, it is measured by how much fun we have, and how much fun people listening to our music are having. If everyone has a great time and wants to come back for more (both the musicians and the audience), then the show was successful.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
