Check Out Toushonta Hogan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toushonta Hogan.

Toushonta is the creator of Scentsational Soaps, an all-natural skincare line for both men and women. A modern-day Renaissance woman described as always having an entrepreneurial spirit, she graduated from California State University with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources. Upon attaining her degree, she set her sights on seeking a career. After many interviews with a drastic economic hit in 2007, she received no response and soon decided to take matters in her own hands by establishing her own business – one that would offer increased responsibility and freedom while allowing her to spend time with her family. Years later, she continuously built her business which landed her in the local program of Target in 20017. She continued to expand all while raising her two children. It was also during this time, she learned her daughter created a video where she was using her mother’s make-up. Of course, while she was highly upset, she saw great potential and introduced her to the world of nail polish. At the tender age of 10, her daughter, Shaiann of Shai’s World started her business. Since then, Shaiann has been seen on “The Real TV show, Teen Boss Magazine, Goodmorning Washington, Harry TV and have spoken on a number of stages. Her daughter also placed 3rd in the i-invest competition in 2019.

Furthermore, Shaiann transfers her knowledge to her community by mentoring and teaching other young girls how to start their own business. Furthermore, Shai’s World gives back to the Love My Neighbor Foundation, An organization that helps the homeless by way of donating food, clothing, and toiletries. Unsure of where her daughter’s business would take her, Toushonta continuously networks, with hopes of forming mutual relationships that benefit both parties. In 2017 Toushonta met Tamara Zantell, the Founder of Raising A Mogul. They joined forces to build the number one Parent Manager Community in the Globe. Toushonta is also the Vice President of Raising A Mogul. Collectively, they have helped parents with the tools, knowledge and confidence needed to help their young moguls build empires. The results received from parents whom have been apart of the Raising A Mogul Community has been astounding. Nevertheless, Toushonta continues to reach for higher heights while sharing knowledge she has learned over the years not only to her daughter but parents of young children who desire to build empires. Her commitment to winning is not a selfish act but instead a win for ALL.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all. I’d say the biggest mountain I’ve ever encountered was that of the 2019 pandemic. I use to think that years prior, I had some challenging times, but none beats the pandemic. Inventory was hard to find, sales were lacking and our customers were not receiving their orders timely, and let’s not forget to mention that I wanted to release a new luxurious line before Christmas 2020. I had to pivot immediately to not have my business fall apart. I soon decided to teach a “Photography Class” to entrepreneurs who needed to learn how to take product photos using their cell phone. It was a hit and allowed me to start a new business; “Toushonta Creates” I taught class for five weeks, and it was a hit! I was extremely grateful that I was able to maneuver during the storm known as the Pandemic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m definitely creative. I love soap making, cooking, and photography. It’s what makes me feel at peace. I’m in my studio for long hours each day. If I’m not in production with making soap, I may be in my photography department taking product photos and / or teaching a photography class to the parents and / or young moguls in Raising A Mogul. And at the end of the day, I cook for my family. It brings me joy being creative in the kitchen. It’s so much fun and it allows me to be free and create anything, just as soap. Creativity exudes from my body and even though I may make soap, food and take photos, “presentation” is everything to me. And with presentation, “customer service” must go hand in hand. I take pride in providing great customer service and building lasting relationships with my customers. Most have been with me since the beginning of Scentsational Soaps and have watched me grow. Even watched my children grow as well.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Years ago before my soap business. I use to be a Child Care Provider. I did this while in college until I started having my own children. During the day, I was a provider and by night a student. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Children are such a light. They are so pure, inquisitive and fun.
