Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Vartanian.
Tom, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I had always been fascinated with photography. Got my first Polaroid camera at around 11 years old. I always did it as a hobby. It wasn’t until 2009 when my photography grew. After the birth of my first son in 2009, I took portrait-style photos of him the first 6 months (probably around 2500 photos). My friends and family encouraged me to do it professionally. I started my business (part-time on weekends only) in 2010. I was working a corporate job doing finance. Finally, in 2015, I decided to leave the corporate world to focus on my photography business full time. Three years later…here I am!!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I look at photography as an art. You have to have the eye for it. You can study it, practice it and take a thousand photos. But if you don’t have the artistic eye, it won’t really work. When photographing a subject, I look to capture that specific memory, to freeze it, for the client to last a lifetime. That’s what pushes me…creating memories for my clients!
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Practice, keep the focus and don’t let negativity get you down. Some people might give you a critique which you don’t like. Don’t focus on the negative, strive for what you do and your talents and always try to stay positive.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
