Check Out Thomas “RATED TG” Torres’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas “RATED TG” Torres.

Hi Thomas “RATED TG”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I stumbled upon music as a career. It started with a $60 birthday gift the summer going into my Freshmen year of high school. Being an only child in a neighborhood with absolutely no kids around, I was in need of something to occupy my time, invest in, and something to pour my creativity into.

With no plan, I used the birthday money and went to Fry’s Electronics and ended up purchasing “Magix Music Maker 7”. This would be my introduction into music production, arrangement, and recording. By senior year I had a full studio recording aspiring rappers from school. My parent’s house became the spot for beats, recording, and home-cooked meals by my mom.

Through networking in this atmosphere I ended up meeting an up and coming music publisher that would pay off right on time. At 20, my parents ended up separating and selling our home giving me the option to put the studio in storage or find an office space and go into business. It was definitely a sink or swim situation but that music publisher that I met a year before had did a publishing deal on over 100 beats and used them for various television shows. With no time left, my very first substantial royalty check came in and was just enough for me to afford a deposit and first month rent for the studio.

That first studio was located in Bellflower and introduced me to even more artists. One in particular was Glasses Malone. Our partnership gave me access to so many major and up and coming artists at the time such as Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, School Boy Q, Akon, Suga Free, Nelly, TY Dolla Sign, YG, and more.

With experience in audio engineering, production, music publishing, and the record industry I decided to utilize that to help craft my own sound with voices of artists that I enjoy… developing my own team of creatives to produce sounds that I feel are being slept on.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. There is a meme showing what success looks like and it’s an overlay exaggerated squiggly line. Thats what the road looks like!

Life happens. There are ups and downs. The “noise” around us is louder than ever telling you to quit. Whatever it is that you’re pursuing in life, you have to be very passionate about it and crazy enough not to quit.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most people know me for audio engineering and music production. People come to me to enhance their songs. That could include production, arrangement, and mixing.

I am most proud of my works with Glasses Malone and the many milestones we achieved on radio and on Billboard charts. I am also proud of the work I am doing with Xian Bell and all of the growth he is having from streams, sales, and a sold-out show we did completely independent.

I think my character and work ethic sets me apart from others.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Everything has a purpose. It may not seem like it in the moment but with perspective, it all makes sense.

You can have the right thing in the wrong season. When you are aligned and walking in your purpose God opens all the doors.
