Today we’d like to introduce you to Theodore Svenningsen.
Theodore, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Stories can go on and on, but in very few words, leaving out much. I have been drawing and painting since before kindergarten. I did not “discover” art in college. When I went to college, at UCLA, which was ten years after high school, I did not major in art but instead majored in philosophy since thinking was of paramount interest, along with art. I was advanced to the doctoral program but never finished my dissertation: I left in order to concentrate on art. Today my art involves various issues of philosophy.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
The statements made in my art utilize text. The two main areas of interest are issues of individual persons not fitting in with the larger group; a second area of interest concerns formal issues of art itself. I would hope viewers of my art would take away some knowledge about issues that I am concerned within the art.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be seen at my studio; I am not in a gallery. People can support my work in the same way that I would think they can support any artist’s work: they can place it in shows, give it gallery support, and of course purchase the art which is something all artists that I know place high on their lists of supportive activities.
