Check Out Tanya Alexis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Alexis

Hi Tanya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
There are many different moving parts that all converged at a precise point to help me get where I am today. I have always loved photography. There is a photo of me at age three with a camera around my neck and a gloworm in my arm. I still remember where I was the first time I got a SLR Minolta Film Camera. I would always go out and about with camera. About six years ago, my partner passed away unexpectedly. This led me to seek out a lot of energy healing work because I knew in my heart that his passing was a catalyst for huge growth on my part if I was ready to accept and commit to it. So, I did. About a year into my healing process, my Father passed away. His passing was also a big opportunity to shift and grow in new ways. About five months after his passing, I decided I wanted to start learning energy healing modalities. Not to work on others just yet, but for me to give myself another way to work through some of the grieving I was in the middle of experiencing.

After Reiki, I continued to learn other healing modalities and take workshops. Two years after my partner passed, I went on a road trip with my film camera. As I arrived at the photo lab, I noticed there was still a roll in the camera, but when I opened the bottom, I expected the film to be rolled up – it wasn’t. I was devastated. Convinced nothing would come out, but instead, I received a beautiful surprise! The way the light ran across some of the frames was magical. I tucked this knowledge away and all but forgot about it until I went to Joshua Tree to photograph a friend. I wanted to see what happened if I intentionally created light leaks. Receiving the film back was so exciting! I had no idea what to expect, but in the end, I was thrilled with the results. As I continue on my path as a healer, I continue to grow and expand the way that I intuitively photograph people – combining their light with the sun’s.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a series of ups and downs. It has taken a lot of work on myself to fully embrace my creativity and how I can best support others. One of my biggest struggles has always been around being seen. It’s taken a few years of constant work, but I am now at a place where I finally feel comfortable saying here’s this awesome unconventional thing that I do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Intuitive Energy Healer and a Photographer. I have many different offerings from healing photography (Embrace the Light Sessions), distance Reiki sessions, Meditation and Yoga classes, Object Clearings (Yup, it’s a thing. You know how you feel drawn to something or thrown off by an object? Well, like all things, it is holding energy that may not belong to it. I am able to clear it so that you can connect with it anew.) and host of other things. One of the areas I am most passionate about is my Embrace the Light Photography sessions, I create healing photographic experiences – part energy healing session (think Reiki mixed with some other goodness) part portrait session.

We focus on what you are ready to release or obstacles that you want to overcome and what you need to see at this moment in time. It is all about trusting your intuition, feeling empowered, and surrendering. We create together. In the end, the person being photographed receives a handful of images from our session – no photoshop – just them and their light. It is beautiful to see how every session is unique. We never know how the photographs will turn out. It is a big act of surrender on everyone’s part. These images are a mixture of all of my healing modalities and experiences mixed with the person being photographed and their beautiful energy. So what sets me apart from others…my journey and my perspective. I am the only person that I know of that tries to capture people’s aura and energy without actually using an aura camera.

What makes you happy?
Honestly, happiness is not something that has been easy for me. Although, a lot of work has been done in recent years in order to shift my perspective around what being happy means. To me, being happy is being content. It is being at peace. It is supporting those who infuse love into what they do. It is sitting playing with one of my cats watching them go crazy. It’s taking a nap with a crystal or going for a walk in a forest surrounded by ancient trees. It’s helping others so that they can see what I see within them. Helping them navigate their fears and insecurities. We are all so special and unique, but as we age and we get hurt, we cover up our light. It fills me with happiness and joy to be able to support you as you rediscover your light, as you remember who you are at your core. Because the world is a bit of a mess at the moment, and we need to be the most loving and kind versions of ourselves and that takes courage, strength, and support. It is an honor to be a part of that support where I am able. I was terrified of being seen for so long, and it is such a weight to no longer carry that burden. I want to be able to help others find that same relief.
