Today we’d like to introduce you to Septerhed.

Septerhed, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was hatched in Japan. My 1st word was “No”. My only inspiration to be an artist was nurtured by being forced to go to church as a child and street signs. Religious art and symbols. It started making some sense when I created “Septerhed” as my senior thesis. Best class I ever took at OTIS. My “work” took me to the streets. It was mainly just doing things I didn’t think I could do. Jumping fences, climbing buildings, etc. I didn’t like the term Street Artist, but I certainly manifested every creative dream I previously neglected hitting the streets with “Art”. I say Urban Artist now. It’s all the same shit. I liked bringing my work to the people rather than have the people find my work. Illegal art was my mentor. The 1st four years of my work was without labels. The last 4 formed my Nervous Lines era. Currently, I am working on The 2nd Chamber. It’s the 2nd phase out of three total. For now, it all makes sense to me and I can abandon it at any moment. I’m a true process artist. My work is meant to be disposable. I’m only making it for the here and now, hoping it can help someone else feel less alone.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Currently, when my brain lets me, I focus on canvas painting, illustrations, murals, and animations, with brief studies in lettering. My work is a collection of vibrations. My themes are LOVE, HATE, LIFE and DEATH. All inspiration in between can be found within a 24 hr period I feel. My work is made for myself. To help myself. I’ve been told it helps others, which keeps me going. Making art is the only thing that puts me in the present, makes me want to wake up. It’s all I’ve got for now.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Working for free. Businesses big and small, don’t respect what artists do. There are so many people willing to work for free, they don’t have to. It’s tough, because some artists, don’t care about getting paid. They just want to do the job. That hurts a lot of artists who are trying to make a living off of it. The artists who do it for free aren’t wrong, but it does make it harder to legitimize their career. 100’s of artists are waiting to take that job you turned down because your landlord stopped taking “Exposure” instead of rent.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a lot of public murals and there are a lot of private ones, you can stumble across. Social media is the easiest place to find it. They can support it by commenting, sharing, reaching out to me just to say anything about the work and buying my work. Sometimes people talk to me when I’m working, which is nice. Sometimes they don’t. It just depends on the situation. People can also commission me for almost anything. I’ve painted and designed so many different products and surfaces. Some of them include t-shirts, window displays, billboards, TV shows, Drink coolers, shoes, skate ramps, skateboards and packaging. There’s more, and I could go on, but I won’t.
