Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammy Jo Fox.
Hi Sammy Jo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had this idea that I could do radio since Jr. High. I wanted to be apart of a street team. In 2011, someone from BREAL.TV asked me if I’d like to come hang out at the studio for a live show & when I got there, they asked if I would like to be on air. I didn’t pass up the opportunity to see what I could do and it felt very natural. Tattoo (from power106, KDay, Latino96.3) asked if I would like to come back every Sunday to do the show as his co-host and I fell in love with the mic. Since then, I created my own show on BREAL.TV (cannabis-friendly live stream put together by BREAL of Cypress Hill). I produced and hosted a show called “Tits N Tacos” every Tuesday for five years. I got asked to be on Power106 in Los Angeles but didn’t get hired, as well as Power in AZ. One of my biggest moments was being able to interview Nipsey Hussle on my days at Power106. I then moved on to do a segment on Big3 Dash Radio “Sammy at the Movies”, then got a bigger role on a Podcast called Street Scholars (Season 2). During that podcast, I was working for a concert company “BobbyDee Presents” as a backstage host interviewing the musical Artist & famous guest. Now, I’m currently on my one year anniversary of doing my own podcast called “The Homegirl Fox”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. It’s been an uphill battle. I have been in radio stations but not being fully hired is definitely a bumpy road. Also, having a full-time job while chasing the dream definitely slows you down during the process, but I’ve overcome both of these struggles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud of not giving up and facing my challenges. I’m proud to say that even when I was told “No”, I kept going and would just create my own door. I think creating my own doors with no big companies behind me for a platform is what sets me apart. Also, the engagement I have with people is rich. I am the listener as well as the host, and that separates me from the radio ego’s out there. I don’t have one.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Social media love is all a dream chaser like myself could ask for. It cost nothing to hit the like, subscribe, and share button. I’m currently on apple podcast & Spotify if you would like to listen and support “The Homegirl Fox” podcast. If you would like to collab, just send an email or DM. I’m pretty good at Responding!
