Check out Ruben Vincent’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben Vincent.

Ruben, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a native to Los Angeles and I am currently based in Pasadena, CA. I attended Art Center College of Design from 2010-2013 (BFA- 2013). While attending Art Center, I began working in a Los Angeles bronze foundry that specialized in fine art. I currently make abstract paintings and metal sculpture.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
For me painting is a form of thinking that fuses knowledge of materials, a fascination with color, and an obsession with surface qualities. I am very interested in the preservation of fluid states that occurs materially throughout my practice. I highly enjoy the challenge of maintaining the fresh wet look of a new painting long after it dries. It is my goal to crystalize the essence of fluidity while preserving the intensity of color saturation, gloss, and overall luminance. Working with translucent layers is also key in order to enhance the effects of ambient light trapped between layers. My practice is currently informed by the mesmerizing properties of naturally occurring gems and minerals that inspire me on a daily basis.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
My advice would be to simply work within your means while following whatever it is that you are passionate about.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be accessed on Instagram @RubenVincentStudios or online at My work can be seen occasionally in group shows at the artist-run space Ghost Gallery located in Pasadena, CA. Follow me and the gallery on Instagram @GhostGalleryLA.
