Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Bones.
Renee, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Fresh out of high school I wanted to be a car designer (custom hot rod designer, really). I had toured the school, though I had made up my mind and then I got cold feet and decided that I should wait 2 years and get my general ed out of the way at orange coast college. In that time, at 19 years old, I got an internship at Quiksilver , and that very quickly turned into a full-time job as a production assistant to the creative director–David. Long story short, it was in that year of working there that I decided I wanted to be a creative director and a commercial photographer. I haven’t looked back or doubted my journey since. Working multiple freelance jobs and going to school to finish up my photo certificates was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I’m so happy and excited to see what the future brings.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I try and make my audience feel the connection to a little rebellion while still feeling comfortable. My main sources of inspiration stem from music and the constant b-roll playing in my head. As if, I want to collect stills from someone’s rebellious daydream.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Work, work, work, work. To be successful in this industry, I’ve learned that it just takes a lot of hard work and being kind to people. My advice would be to shoot every day, whether it’s with your phone, film camera, polaroid or a DSLR–shoot constantly. Oh, and find what inspires you and run with it.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
To support me, you can tell your friends about me! Word of mouth is the best form of flattery in my opinion. My website is constantly being updated with my most recent work.
