Check out Pablo Cortez’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pablo Cortez.

Pablo, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My parents made the intense trek to the United States from Guadalajara in the early 80’s. Raising three kids in southern California and making sure we got through school while providing what they could for us.

As a Cal Poly Pomona graduate, I’ve been able work with both large and small landscape architecture firms and can finally say that I am a licensed landscape architect. It’s been a stressful process but now I am able to focus on creating my own practice and develop my own residential design projects. I dabble in writing and the occasional painting project, which help to keep the creative process flowing. I live in Anaheim with my wife, son and another little one on the way.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Simply put, I design outdoor spaces for people. Whether it’s a small backyard patio or a large public park, the intent of my designs is for people to enjoy themselves in them and hopefully add to their quality of life. Though getting a project built is very technical and there is plenty of collaboration with other team members, it all leads to being able to see a design come to life in the real world. It becomes a part of people’s experience. I like to write, though I should be doing more of it, and pick up the paintbrush when I have the free time.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Take risks. There is a ton of reward in it for you if you continue to do what you love while taking risks and challenging yourself. There is growth in risk.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I’ve started Sitio Landscape Architecture, a design studio based out of Anaheim, CA where I focus on the residential part of landscape design. We are new but have the experience that we’ve developed while working for larger firms and on a wealth of projects. Our website is up at www.sitiola.com and people can follow our startup journey on our Instagram and Facebook accounts, @sitiolandscapearchitecture. Following us and sharing our work is a great way to support us and what we do.
