Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Salazar.
Hi Wendy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was looking for decorations for my daughter’s 1st birthday and wasn’t able find what I was looking for, I just happened to walk into a party supply and distribution center where they were teaching how to do balloons. I was very interested and signed up because I wanted to make my daughter’s party extra special. I only attended 1 class before her party and I was hooked. I then decided I wanted to attend more classes and with my parents blessing my Mom bought me my 1st helium tank. It took me about one year to get all my business paperwork completed and start offering balloon decorations for all events. Through the last ten years; I have learned about color schemes, design & balloon techniques from the best decorators in the world. We are thankful for our current clients who continue to refer us to their family & friends. Also, we have a great relationship with our Event planners & Venue managers who have referred us to potential clients. Along with Social Media, we have been able to be more efficient to reach out to clients online!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Road to our ongoing business hasn’t always been smooth. During the pandemic, we had to make changes to my business to more of a “Non-Contact” deliveries only. We didn’t have Big set ups booked during the pandemic because big events were not taking place during the Pandemic. But I was able to deliver a lot of bouquets to those people who were celebrating milestones. Presently we are keeping up to date with CDC guidelines in order to continue to decorate for these smaller celebrations safely. I am always challenged to be different to stay relevant. Due to the nature of our business, I am always looking for the “New Trends” and “Non-Traditional” designs that catch our client’s eye. Attending classes of design every month keeps me in tune with new colors and balloon designs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a balloon stylist, I love to create designs that are full of color. I like to use different types of balloons in different sizes and add a unique twist to a design by adding natural flowers, adding hand-cut tassels or by placing confetti or paint inside of balloon. I like to keep up with the “New Trends” and “Non-Traditional color combinations” that catch your eye and make any balloon piece be its own statement. I like to make it memorable just like the party itself!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
During this journey, I have learned that It isn’t easy to start a business, but it’s very rewarding to continue it as every year that goes by. I have learned also that a client will continue to book my balloons as long as they know that I care for their event. By showing them designs that are Unique for their party and promise to make them feel extra special like they deserve! I am grateful for these years that have passed to have done balloons for every single client, and I am looking forward to many more events coming up.
