Check Out Tashianna Polanco’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tashianna Polanco.

Hi Tashianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the owner of Unforgettable Events SoCal. My husband and I have been married for ten years and have two daughters six and two along with our nine years old Border Terrier Mix DOG-hter! Two of the biggest reasons of why I work so hard on our business are because I obviously love what I get to do and I’m super passionate about it but also to show my daughters to go after their dreams so they learn that anything is possible including being your own boss! It all started when I helped my brother-in-law and his wife with their backyard wedding in 2016 and fell in love with the process. Did I mention that the day of the Wedding it was 98 degrees outside?! In the San Fernando Valley! That is when I knew that despite the hard work and stress of it all, seeing everything come together and the reaction on people’s faces when it was all done…I had found my calling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, I was doing a lot of work for free and investing so much money into the business, it was scary! It felt like I was not ever going to make the money I thought I deserved, but other people started noticing me and then it finally clicked! I started to realize my worth and changed my mindset. A big thing was understanding that not everyone was going to be my client and that’s ok! Saying no sometimes is ok if it means keeping my peace not only for myself but for my marriage and family! I saw on someone’s bio that they quoted “know your worth, then add tax!” and I loved it but I also value the fact that our happiness and health (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual) is priceless!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Event Designer, Wedding Planner and Party Stylist there are a lot of different hats I wear. Whoever thinks this job is easy, don’t get it twisted, it’s not! It’s difficult to manage all the stress that comes with planning an event and making sure it runs smoothly. It’s very time-consuming and anyone who has ever planned any kind of event knows that. It’s time away from family, the research, the calls, the late nights and early mornings, the crafts so on and so forth…it’s a lot! And not only do you have to worry about your work and making sure your client loves everything but then coordinating with all the other vendors involved such as florals, desserts, backdrops, balloons, catering, venues, insurance, etc…this is why people hire us so they can enjoy their special day and just show up on the day of to have an amazing time! We truly go above and beyond to make sure our clients are happy with everything and anyone who has booked with us would agree. I pour my heart and soul into each event and work hard at earning my client’s trust to build relationships with them. It is such an amazing feeling when we get a returning client and they tell us “I trust you, you decide!” It empowers our creativity and is such a compliment to know that they believe in us like that…no pressure though right?!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
When I started this business, I feel like that was the biggest risk I have ever taken in my life. I went from a Bank Branch Manager to a full-time stay at home mommy (best job ever) and because I was home all the time, I was able to evaluate what it was that I loved to do, planning and designing events! In the beginning, I could not think of a business name for the life of me but I honestly in my heart knew I wanted to make events Unforgettable for my clients. I mean think about it, I create for monumental moments in my client’s lives that they will always remember and I GET TO be a part of that. It’s truly special and something I don’t ever take for granted! #Blessed My husband was so supportive not only emotionally but financially also. It was scary when I kept pouring more and more money into the business with really no return. I wish I knew back then that this business is a process. Nothing happens overnight. Getting to form relationships with the vendors, learning how to do mock ups, getting clients, building a portfolio, creating content and an aesthetic…it’s all a process. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have, it matters how much business you have.
