Check Out Rocio Gallardo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocio Gallardo.

Rocio, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi my name Rocio Gallardo and I am the creator of Kiki’s Treats. I was born in Mexico and I was brought to the US as a child. I grew up and reside in Montebello California.

I am a mom of 4 kids. I always had a creative side to me as I love and enjoy doing arts and crafts with my kids. It NEVER crossed my mind that Creating Apples and Treats would quickly become my Passion.

All this started when my son Tyler was four years old… he asked me for cakepops for his bday and having the mindset that I can do it myself I did exactly that. I gathered up all the necessary supplies did my research and gave it a try. It was a sleepless night but I managed to make him those Cakepops. 100 to be exact. They were not the best but one thing is for sure they were made with lots of love.

After this, I continued to make treats here and there for my kid’s birthdays and holidays and would also send homemade gifts of appreciation to my kid’s teachers.

In May 2018, I sent some homemade gifts to both of my kid’s teachers for teacher appreciation week.

I made some Chamoy apples and some chocolate-dipped strawberries and put them in a nice box added some wine and a nice bow.

Ohhh boy who would have known that these gifts would be the start of what is today…. Kikis Treats.

As soon as I picked up the kids from school, the feedback I got from the teachers was amazing!!! They were extremely Thankful and Supportive they suggested that I can start a business doing this.

I never thought about a business; I always made these things to show others how much I appreciated them.

A few weeks went by and I finally gave in

I decided I would give this a try…

I knew I needed a name that was “catchy “ to attract attention.

My daughter’s name is Kailey but we call her Kiki. I thought it would be cute to give the business the name of Kiki’s Treats.

The name was perfect.

I was inspired and I was in need of the extra income so I gave it a try.

I created a page on Instagram.

Started off by making chocolate-dipped apples topped off with popular chocolate like Reeses Pieces, M & M’s, Hershey’s, etc.

I advertised them on Instagram and started advertising at the park while my boys practiced football.

Little by little, I started getting orders.

I signed up for my first pop-up.

It wasn’t great… I ended up with some apples but I didn’t give up. I started to promote them and sold out. That was a huge plus.

Weeks later… Here comes Kiki’s birthday.

I knew I had to make more than apples to be more marketable.

I decided to make a full dessert table for her. I didn’t sleep all night, the results were good; they were not the best as I didn’t really know much just the basics or so I thought I knew the basics.

After the party, I posted pictures of all the desserts I had made. Guess what?? People actually liked them. I was surprised. Here came my first clients. I was now being booked for treat orders. yay 🙌🏻

This was just the beginning.

I really put my all into this business. I told myself if this is what I wanted to do, I had to learn to do things right.

I spend endless hours researching endless hours practicing. I learned a lot through YouTube and got inspiration through Pinterest. I advertise myself and my work like there’s no tomorrow on social media.

I made the 1st order and gave it my all.

I used those pictures for samples and little by little, I had started to build my “portfolio”.

Things were not always rainbows and butterflies there were a lot of tears of frustration, a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of headaches and heartaches. Times where I wanted to give up.

I learned from all those mistakes.

I kept doing my research and kept practicing and little by little, I started to get better. My work really improved.

As my work improved so did my sales. I had clients referring me by word of mouth. I had clients wanting to book me months ahead of their celebrations. With sales increasing, I was now able to profit, I was no longer “giving” away my work. This was amazing; my hobby quickly turned into my “Jobby” lol.

In 2020, I met Sandra from Rustic & Chic she is An AMAZING event planner. She invited me to join her team as she has a team of vendors that she worked with to build up her events.

I was given my 1st task. I was so nervous I knew if I did a good job, she would continue to provide me with more orders. I gave it my all and guess what…

She loved my work.

Being part of Sandra’s team has been a huge impact in my business.

Through my hard work and dedication, I have improved my work tremendously. I now have an AMAZING LOVE & SUPPORT from my followers and an AMAZING Clientele.

With the support of all these people, I have now had a great outcome in my sales and events which have been SOLD OUT EVENTS 🙌🏻

Holiday sales have skyrocketed. I have clients who book me up to a year ahead and even have had out of state clients. And Some Clients who drive 2-3 hours just to have me create something beautiful for their special Celebrations. That’s a true honor.

In the summer of 2020, I was invited to participate in a Holiday catalog with Festively. This was such a fun experience. I was chosen for two holidays which were Dia De Muertos and Christmas celebration. I met a lot of talented woman.

In November 2020, I was featured for the 1st time in Telemundo on Acceso Total when Claudia Uballez the Talent Coordinator reached out to Sandra with interest in featuring me and my Thanksgiving Turkey apples on a segment. My own segment 🙌🏻THIS WAS AMAZING!!! When I got the message, I almost fainted how was this possible God made this possible hard work truly pays off.

I have been invited back and I have now been featured in Telemundo on Acceso Total of 4 times.

In February 2021, I was invited by Events and Crafts to participate in a Series Named Celebrate with Jacqie which is available on YouTube where they had contestants participate to win a celebration of their dreams that didn’t happen due to Covid.

In this YouTube series, I had the honor of working alongside the Beautiful and talented Jacqie Rivera.

They chose four winners. I was chosen for the celebration of a special little girl Sophia who would celebrate her 3rd birthday. The theme was Sophia’s Inc. on the series I taught Jacqie how to create custom Rice Krispies for Sophia’s bday celebration. Which later, I created the whole dessert table for Sophia’s big day. This experience was truly amazing.

Today I celebrate my success by being an inspiration to others always spreading Positivity and Encouragement with the mindset that SI SE PUEDE anything that you put your heart into, you can do it. It will take time it won’t be easy but you are capable of making your dreams a reality like I am today. Today I celebrate not giving up. Imagine I did? I wouldn’t have experienced all these beautiful moments these awesome experiences and opportunities.

This is just the beginning as I have a passion for what I do. I still have a lot to learn my work is not perfect but one thing is for sure I treat every order as if it was the 1st always providing the clients with the best I can.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road has not been easy. It’s been a huge learning experience. When I started I didn’t know that purchasing the correct chocolate would be a huge impact.

I remember literally crying when I burned the chocolate. When my chocolate melted with a million clumps when I just couldn’t figure it out. When it was 3 am and I still had to complete the order that was due a few hours later. I remember coloring the chocolate with the wrong food coloring and totally ruining the chocolate. It took lots of trial and errors plus endless hours on the internet trying to figure things out. In this industry, your chocolate is what makes you or breaks you it’s a huge deal.

Another huge Challenge is workspace as your business grows the space needed also increases.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Custom Treats and Apples for any occasion. They are my passion my other babies you can say 🙈

My specialty is creating Beautiful apples. They are my best sellers from creating a custom-themed apple to creating a beautiful custom treat.

I love to get creative; I try to make every piece as unique as possible. I have a passion for details every piece I create will always have an extra touch. Personalization is also a must. I always want my clients to feel extra special so personalizing their treats is a must.

I am proud of how much my work has improved from not knowing much about this business to running a successful business. From “playing” with chocolate to becoming a Treat / Apple Artist.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to others is NOT TO GIVE UP; if you have a passion for what you are doing, DONT GIVE UP.

It won’t always be butterflies and rainbows there will be times when you want to give up there will be times when you will be discouraged. There will be times when you will fail.

It happens to all of us. I’ve been there.

On those days, you need to push harder you need to overcome the fear. And you need to do whatever it takes to accomplish your goals.

At the end, it’s all worth it. The reward is worth it.

When starting out, there were many times when I wanted to give up, I don’t wish those moments didn’t happen because it’s all a learning experience. I think that living through those experiences they have made me stronger I feel that if I didn’t have those obstacles, I would have not worked as hard as I did. These are just lessons that we must live through in order to gain success nothing comes easy.
