Check Out Raven Roth’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Roth.

Hi Raven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m the CEO & founder of THATSSOLASHES. I started my business when I was 17 years old after I graduated from high school. I got into lashing after a close friend of mine suggested I take a lash course because I had a hard time trying to find myself when I started college. On the first day of training, my eyelash instructor saw my potential. She motivated me to take lashing to another level & suggested I pursue it as a career path. At the time, I was a full-time college student majoring in Biology while working part-time at the mall as a skin care consultant. Trying to maintain my grades, go to work and maintain a social life was already a struggle, so I didn’t really have time to prioritize lashing as much as I wanted to. In between my spare time & off days, I began practicing on my friends & family in the corner of my bedroom. After about 6 consistent months of lashing, I started to gain more clientele and exposure.

From that point forward, I decided to make lashing a full-time job. One year into lashing, I dropped out of school temporarily. My business began to increase and required more of my time to be invested. Throughout that year, I reached so many other lash techs and women who were interested in learning my techniques, so I started offering private & group training as well as selling my lash products. After about two years of lashing, I was working in my private lash suite where I serviced hundreds of beautiful & exclusive clients. I also started holding an annual food drive with the support of my friends, family & clients during the holiday season to give back to the community. Today, I am going on three full years of lashing and currently rebranding my business to prepare for the new services and products I will soon be offering. Recently, I re-enrolled back in school to pursue my Biology and Marketing degree, along with my esthetician license so I can start offer facials, sugaring/waxing, permanent makeup and spray tans in the near future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business has its ups & downs, but I can say it’s been pretty smooth with little bumps here and there. Personally, one struggle I have with running my business is that I am nonstop at it. Whether if it’s servicing a client, making content or brainstorming ideas, I am always quite busy. In my experience, it just gets a little overwhelming if I don’t try to balance my personal life & my work life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a beauty provider who currently specializes in eyelash extensions. I’m best known my creative freestyle. My creative freestyles are customized lash sets that accentuate the client’s eye shape, and I add a little ThatsSo spice to make the set pop! So far, I’m most proud of all the freestyle sets that I’ve created on one of my lovely brand ambassadors. We try to think outside the box every time we create a lash set, so it’s a little difficult to choose just one that I’m most proud of. I would say it would be in between the “Icy Girl Set” a black & blue ombré set, and the “Certified Lover Girl Set” a black and red freestyle, with a Swarovski heart that I hand created by carefully placing about 20 Swarovski crystals on each eye. What sets me apart is that I’m a perfectionist & I’m passionate in what I do. Not only that, but I take my time on all my clients & I always thrive to execute every lash set to the best of my abilities. When I lash, I always try my best to fulfill the style my client desires while still accentuating their natural eye shape, so we can have a guaranteed satisfied outcome. I use the best quality supplies on each client & I aspire for my client to feel good about themselves after every appointment by enchanting their natural beauty.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those starting out, I would say stay consistent & don’t give up. Starting with lashes was tricky but not impossible. All it takes is practice & motivation & you will get to where you want to be. Most importantly, invest in an informative training with a qualified lash tech who will provide all the information & supplies you’ll need to become a successful business owner. Lastly, please always take care of yourself along the process and don’t let it overwhelm you. You got it boss! xoxo
