Check Out Monique Pimentel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Pimentel.

Hi Monique, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started doing makeup when I was in my Sophomore year in High School. Since then I was always self-taught until I went to a Makeup Studio in East LA in 2020. I was then a certified Makeup Artist in August 2020. After, I started creating more content and becoming PR / BA for small businesses. I was being recognized by some big brands, such as Benefit Cosmetics, LA Girl Cosmetics, Makeup Revolution, Kara Beauty, Morphe, and Beauty Creations. A small brand business also wrote about me in their blog, which they are located in NYC. As these years gone by, I started getting more clients for my freelance makeup.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy. Working in the makeup industry is challenging because it is mainly about competition. Most people don’t support you because they expect you to fail and I had a lot of people that expected me to fail. A lot of close families also brought me down with their words which caused me to stop doing makeup for quite some time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Certified Makeup Artist. I do makeup on myself and on others as well. Apart from that, I am a Teacher Assistant working for LAUSD. I am known for my makeup content posted on Instagram and TikTok. I am most proud of the small but big accomplishments I have made since I started. Receiving my certification was one of my most proudest moments, and because of the certificate, I have worked with others.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is family. Family can be difficult sometimes but it doesn’t always need to be blood. Family can be anyone, and I learned that during quarantine.
