Check Out Monica Mamudo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Mamudo.

Hi Monica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started creating content for the internet back in Brazil in 2008, 2009… with blogs. I’ve always been fascinated by the fact that we could share things and learn online. But it was just for fun. Back in 2016, when I fractured my patella I went back to creating content on youtube and really hit it off. Then I kind of drifted away from it to focus on work and study and my program exchange. Fast forward to 2020, having finished school and leaving one year working in LA, I started TikTok in the pandemic. But it really hit it off. I talk about cultural differences, funny stories as a Brazilian in the USA and fashion content. I was TikTok Latinx trailblazer of 2020 and that was a huge deal. I feel really lucky in having a platform who embraces me and helps me grow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh no! When you go viral like I did, you welcome people into your life: whether you talk about your personal life or not. I had people pointed out what they assume it’s flaws in my face – criticizing my nose pé my body – to people meddling into my relationship. I don’t take it personally anymore, I understand that people who doesn’t have anything nice to say will make their mission trying to ruin your day because you’re “succeeding” or they think you are. Nobody knows what really happens behind the screen, and this goes for both sides. So I just try to brush it off and wish them peace of mind.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think I am really proud to have been one of the firsts Latinx trailblazers of TikTok. It was so cool. I thought nobody was listening to me and the biggest platform in the world was right there! I feel very lucky.

What are your plans for the future?
I don’t want to jinx anything! Hahaha but I think I would like to focus on what I started with: dismantling stereotypes about Brazilians and Latin woman and teaching people about my culture. I love doing that. Keep entertaining people! It doesn’t matter how! Maybe a Netflix show? Merch? Who knows! I just want to be around with the right group of people!
