Check Out Marco Pelusi’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marco Pelusi.

Marco, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m blessed; I grew up on the East Coast in Pennsylvania, where my family has a chain of hair salons since 1965. Very early in my 20s, right after college, I was lucky enough to work in house at an Italian haircolor company based in Pennsylvania and then worked with them in Italy! I took this expertise and took a job as an educator here in Southern California in my early 20s and I have been here ever since. I was blessed to have met the right people and being at the right place at the right time; slowly building my entertainment clientele while simultaneously continuing to teach at hair industry shows and events. Methodically and painstakingly, I worked to build my brand of hair care products: Marco Collagen Color Guard Haircare. It’s the first and only line for color-treated hair with collagen. So thrilled it’s done so well; my leave in conditioner is the signature hero product! Over the past year or so with a pandemic, I began to expand my teaching virtually! I reached a new audience of hairdressers virtually, and now we have salons throughout the country passionate about and carrying my product as well. I also love teaching! It’s my passion!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some real struggles were the fact that my salon grew so quickly! We didn’t have a large enough hot water heater, the hot water would run out on Saturdays! But like my mom always said, “the building can be falling down, and you still offer your customer a glass of water“. And this is true. We carried on even with cold water until we could replace the hot water heater! And it’s always a challenge dealing with relationships; it’s also a blessing to work with people and to get to know them and to develop relationships. It’s all about relationships, it’s a challenge and a blessing at the same time! Just recently, it was a huge challenge with the pandemic, keeping afloat with the business. As I mentioned earlier, I began to teach virtually, which was a huge help in transitioning and pivoting my business during the pandemic, and it led to a new business of my educational offerings for stylists, as well as product sales. So challenging this past year with the pandemic, it’s important to reinvent one’s self when needed!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for hair color. I spent years working inside of a hair color lab, working with hair color products, testing them, researching them, teaching them, spreading the message about how to do good hair color while still maintaining quality and integrity of the hair! I love it! I fell in love when I saw the first teacher talk about hair color, and I knew right then and there, but that’s what I would focus on! My life has been entrenched in haircolor; my products are specifically for color-treated hair, my clients know me and come to me with trust in me for their hair color. Hairdressers around the globe Come to me to learn haircolor techniques, now virtually as well as in person. I love what I do and I am very blessed! I look forward to the next several years!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Really easy. People can come to get their hair done, schedule a virtual consultation; people can visit me at my salon, people can visit me on social media; but perhaps the coolest part is that stylists can take my classes online! And/or stylists may attend a live class of mine at a show or here at my salon when we begin doing live events again. I love connecting with people, as I mentioned earlier, relationships are a great challenge and a wonderful thing to develop, and I thrive on it! Please feel free to reach out to me regarding hair and any hair needs!
