Check Out Leran Shimshi’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leran Shimshi.

Leran, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was intrigued by makeup from as young as two years old. I would steal my mother’s makeup and smear it all over my face. When I entered high school, I suffered from acne. I taught myself how to use makeup to cover up my breakouts and enhance the things I liked about myself, like my eyes. Later in high school, my house was where all my friends would get ready to go out, and they would often ask for help with their makeup. I always said yes and would get so excited to have another canvas to get creative with. At 19 years old, I decided I wanted to do bridal makeup professionally and signed up for makeup school! I am now 24 and grateful for the opportunities I have had.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest obstacle I faced in the past few years was Covid. Like most people during this time, I lost work. I did not get a job for almost ten months during the pandemic as most people were not going to any events or having any weddings, and there was no need for a special event makeup artist. It was a tough time, but things have gotten much better. Still, a big struggle for freelance artists at times can be finding jobs. There are weeks when you get so many jobs that taking them all is impossible, but then there are quiet times. It is challenging to have a steady balance at times.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a special events makeup artist. When someone has a special event, I will travel to them and do their makeup for the event. Some events include weddings, birthdays, graduations, award ceremonies, photoshoots, and red carpet events. My specialty is glam to enhance one’s natural beauty. I like people to still look like themselves, just better after being in my chair! My proudest accomplishments would be all the brides I have had the pleasure to do. There is something so special about helping them feel beautiful on their big day.
