Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Child.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was around 16, staying up late, painting my own face over and over again. I fell in love with the freedom makeup gave me, as a shy girl, it was like a doorway to expressing my inner world without having to speak. That love transferred to working on other people, taking makeup classes and assisting one of my favorite artists. I have so much I want to do! I feel like I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My pursuit of living a life in art has definitely had its trials and struggles. I think every artist can attest to that! Molding my career to work with motherhood being my first priority hasn’t been easy. I’ve struggled with self-doubt and mental blocks. I never expected an easy road, but I’ve always known that my authentic true love of makeup would take me to wherever I’m supposed to be – when things get tough, I lean into that belief.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My career is makeup artistry, that’s what I specialize in, but I love to write and draw on my own time. As far as makeup artistry goes, I think what sets me apart is my true love of the art of it. My goal is to make my clients feel like their truest self, never to look as though the makeup is wearing them. My favorite artists evoke a feeling and story from their work- I hope to do the same! I think what I’m most proud of is proving to myself that I can make my dreams come true for the right reasons. I feel like I’m dreaming every day, even on the hard days. I know I’m so lucky to feel that way
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory… I think discovering the music and art that spoke to me. Suddenly my world was set on fire, I felt so alive. Haha
