Today we’d like to introduce you to Lajja Mistry.
Hi Lajja, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and brought up in India and came to the states in 2021 to pursue a master’s degree in journalism. I fell in love with storytelling and now I strive to tell stories about people and things that matter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always. I was born into a privileged family and got the opportunity to study what I wanted. COVID disrupted many plans and it has been tough dealing with the anxiety of navigating alone in a new country.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a journalist. I am currently working as an education reporter. I love telling feature stories and writing human-focused stories. I have wanted to use journalism as a platform where I can bring transparency, fairness, and truth, which is something I am proud of. I want to tell stories that people want to read and can help them somehow. Being a South Asian in the USA, I have had to learn so many new things and as a journalist, I have had to know everything about this country in a short time.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to keep working as a journalist and hopefully work as a feature reporter in the future.
If I can stay in the US, I would be grateful. If not, I intend to go back to India and work on bringing the kind of journalism that I have grown to love here.
