Check Out Katelynn Loflin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelynn Loflin.

Hi Katelynn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a young girl, I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist. Every birthday or Christmas my parents would buy me hair accessories, doll heads, etc.

I was always the person braiding and styling my friend’s hair growing up.

Six months after I graduated high school, I began cosmetology school. Where I met my best friend madison.

Shortly after I graduated, I began working for madison’s mom and aunt’s salon, “madison avenue salon”.

Not only did I learn so much creativity from them, I also learned how to become a businesswoman, a leader and empowering other woman.

I’ve been a licensed stylist for over seven years now.

I assisted for about three years and worked on commission for another year. Learning techniques from several stylists, picking their brains and combining it all to be the stylist I wanted to be.

I’ve been on my own for the last three years now. It wasn’t until about two years ago when I finally felt like I had the confidence to be the stylist I am today. That is one thing I will say, confidence is key! Stop second-guessing yourself and know you got this!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Just like any journey, there’s always gonna be a few bumps in the road. Luckily I am very blessed to have the support that I have to get through that. When you’re first starting out, your going to face many challenges. The only advice I can give is to believe in yourself and not to give up. Find yourself a good tribe to support you and everything else will come easy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist. I specialize in blondes, balayages, braids and cuts. I’m known mainly for my blondes and braids with extensions. My bestfriend and I own a mobile braiding business called “sugar braids” we travel all over LA/Ventura county. We braid for birthday parties, festivals, fairs, etc.

I’m proud of always staying true to myself. Knowing my worth and always pushing myself to be a better stylist.

There are so many talented artists out there. I think what separates me from others is not my work but my personality. As a hairstylist, you’re not just doing hair but building a relationship with your clients. And I take pride in getting to know my clients and genuinely caring for them.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love about our city is the diversity. People are able to express themselves and be who they are without standing out.

What I dislike is the homeless population.
