Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Cardinali.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Ojai, CA. My father is a musician and my mother is an artist. From a young age, I’ve been obsessed with everything art and music-related. I started my first band in 7th grade and never looked back. I go by Stoney Eye. My brand is Stoney Eye Studios. I am a music producer, artist, and musician. I do stencil/digital art and have been featured in galleries around Los Angeles. I have also done the art for album covers as well as some large murals in office spaces around California. Most recently, I got into turning my art into NFT’s when this whole pandemic thing started because I needed a new platform when galleries no longer were having shows. Musically I have written songs and played guitar for some reggae legends as well as a lot of new upcoming artists in the reggae scene. I have toured the country and played everything from dive bars to amphitheaters like Red Rocks in Colorado. I was mentored by the legendary “The Scientist” (OG dub artist from Jamaica) and have most recently been doing live dub shows in Decentraland (the Meta Verse). Like my art, I had to find a new outlet for my live music when everything shut down and I also became a father in 2020.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel being an artist is a constant struggle regardless of how successful you are. You are always trying to improve and learn so you can outdo yourself. The term struggling artist is so popular for a good reason. I am by no means rich but I wouldn’t change my past for anything. I have been lucky and done so many cool things and met so many talented and cool people along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do really anything creative that catches my eye or comes up, but first and foremost, I’m a guitarist. I play in multiple bands, I also have a home recording studio where I’m constantly making beats and writing songs for bands and singers. I love the art of dub music and do dub remixes for bands. Most recently, I did three dub’s for the band Iration for a dub EP they put out featuring myself, the Scientist and Stu Brooks of Dub Trio. So depending on where you met me, you might know me for my guitar playing, music production, artwork or my DJing.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to collab. With music, I don’t sing so I love to see how a beat/riddim I made months or even sometimes years ago finally has some lyrics written to it and gets put out and becomes something I never imagined by another artist. Currently, I have music and art as NFTs and people can show support by purchasing on Opensea. I have a NFT project dropping at the end of this quarter on Exchange.io called Cosmic Queens. It’s a 3333 collection of randomly generated girls, all hand-drawn by me, made up of 12 attributes and 263 traits. You can follow me on Twitter and stay updated.
