Check Out Jmsey’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jmsey.

Hi Jmsey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I currently am in Hobo Johnson + The Lovemakers. The past three years have been amazing, during which time I was able to craft my own sound and style. Now I’ve started to release my own music as well as to continue being a member of the group.

I relocated to Los Angeles in February 2020!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My family are Vietnamese refugees. When my parents fled their country, they ended up in England. I was born in England and upon realizing most of our family were in the States, we applied for greencards and moved when I was 13.

That being said, pursuing music as a career was not the most welcomed idea in my family.

I did it anyway and I don’t regret it one bit.

This industry is tough, so starting it without much support, I think was an odd blessing in disguise.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a humbly-sized discography. Thus far, I have a self-produced EP with a track that features Hobo Johnson. After a little hiatus (covid), I’ve come back into the world swinging with a slightly more energetic and fun vibe.

I used my time during lockdown to really figure out what type of music I wanted to make moving forward.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think post-pandemic artists and people alike will have realized the importance of having multiple things going. I don’t think anyone expected live music/events to stop so drastically, but clearly it is possible.

I think there will be more focus on unique ways to present “live” music whether that be higher quality production in streaming or who knows.
