Check Out Dinesh Dave’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dinesh Dave. He share his story with us below:

Dinesh is an Art Director and Product Designer at Meta

Currently, at Meta, Dinesh is responsible for building strategic, narrative-driven experiences on the Facebook app, using machine learning effects, Reels, avatars, web3, and the Metaverse products.

Before joining Meta, Dinesh worked at Apple on the Interactive dot com team, helping launch Apple’s newest products into the worldwide web. Previously, he worked at AKQA and Wieden+Kennedy in Portland, Oregon where he designed delightful marketing campaigns in a variety of mediums, such as print, web, film, motion, and interactive experiences for clients like Levis, Oreo, Coca-Cola, and Nike.

Originally from London, England, he left at the age of 18 to pursue the American dream. He currently resides in sunny Los Angeles, California where he happily no longer worries about crummy British weather, but dearly misses crumpets. When he’s not playing with pixels in Figma, Dinesh likes to direct and edit films, work on his first NFT collection, DJ 90s UK garage music, and care for his extensive cactus collection.

For over ten years Dinesh has been a mentor to dozens of young designers across the world, and lectured hundreds, helping them navigate their creative careers pre and post-graduation, and guiding them to achieve their ambitions.

Dinesh believes is a very hands-on approach. He works closely with his mentees and offers transparent guidance and practical support to get portfolios into tip-top shape for employers to drool over. Dinesh continues to coach his mentees to successfully meet with recruiters, deliver impactful presentations, and approach design leadership within an organization with thoughtful, considerate, and well-crafted work.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I came to America when I was 18 with just two suitcases. An F1 visa is all I had. My parents almost went bankrupt during my college experience while they were in London, and almost had to leave America to come home and stop chasing my dreams.

I hustled HARD in Atlanta, DJ’n everywhere I could to get money wherever I could, college radio, RA. I was fired, rehired then fired again. I would sell bootleg software to help get me by and pay for the next meal.

I moved to Oregon to work at an amazing company, sadly after almost 11 months of promises to get me on the visa I needed to stay in the country. They didnt and decided to let me go. I then had to scramble for a month trying to stay in the country. I even tried to marry someone! I then found another company that would sponsor me to the visa I needed. Two weeks before I was about to get kicked out the country.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
People. People are the most important part of my life. Hearing other people’s stories, and understanding perspectives because I am not the same as everyone. Everyone has a different way of thinking. Its how I can learn and become a better person. is by listening to others.
